I, for one, would like to see this forum have some threads about Texas instead of threads to introduce or discuss gripes about the site or romance questions -- for which there are fora in the main section.
So, I am suggesting that we start threads about our section of Texas -- not "Who lives in ___________? -- which one can find by filtering, but rather, here is something I find interesting or spectacular or beautiful or ugly or whatever.

Well, I have already added a couple and I would love to read a thread about Lubbock or Austin or San Antonio. I am just looking for a little substance here.

Well no one loves Austin as much as I. I have traveled the 48 states and camped in many but.... Maybe some that are over 40 will remember the treasure we had north of Austin called Pale Face Park. Now its a County park you must pay to enter and they have renamed it Pace Bend Park.
Now combine the love I have for the Gulf Coast the salt air breezes and the many beautiful beaches. You will find a State park about 3 hours south in Rockport called Goose Island State Park. The first time I visited this park was looking for a boat ramp to enter the Copano Bay. I thought I was back in Austin. The live Oak trees growing right on the water.
"Goose Island State Park sighting brown pelicans, the rare whooping crane and fishing the prolific waters of Aransas, Copano and St. Charles bays draw campers to this oldest of the Texas coastal state parks. Somewhat protected from coastal storms, the park’s Lamar Peninsula is a forest of dramatic windsculpted trees and home to the “Big Tree,” a massive coastal live oak estimated to be more than 1,000 years old that has become one of the natural wonders of Texas. Small Goose Island features a camping area overlooking Aransas Bay, but does not have a beach or swimming area."
This State park was credited of having the oldest and largest Live oak tree for many years, but recently there has been one found bigger in Brazos Bend State Park.

Thanx luking -- sounds like Goose Island could use its own thread.
For posting clickable links btw, it is relatively easy to do -- just put url in the front and /url after and enclose in []. If you want the name of the link different than the link then put url=http://www.matchdoctoror whateversite.com inside the []. Preview to make sure you have done it right. Good luck.

Since I live across Copano Bay Bridge from Goose Island, I hope you won't think me rude to say, "The Big Tree" is thought to have been here more than 1000 years, in fact, legend has it, it was here when Christ was on earth, though I don't know how that's calculated-I know rings around the inside bark give some indication of a tree's age. You may have read latter data-but I think on the post card it still says something about that. Am I wrong? I vote for Fulton-Rockport, on Live Oak Peninsula, as one of the most beautiful places in Texas. I live at the lower end of the bay, so am never more than two miles from any part of the bay. We have a lot to look forward to here, including next week-end (October 6-7) our Sea Fair. This is in Rockport-They also have a Nautical Garage Sale, with everything you need or want for boats or a nautical theme. We have Oysterfest in March here in Fulton, and this is the only fund raiser for our Voluntary Fire Department. There are rides, a carnival with booths and food, a tent for music and food, and an Arts and Crafts tent. I've been in the parade several times and Chaired it once for our resort park. It's a lot of fun as we throw candy from the float-some floats throw out beads in sort of a Mayberry type Mardis Gras-and we usually find just about anything from local honey to saddles! We have lots of artists from this area and we have a big Art show on July 4th on the beach, (Rockport) and an air show over the bay. At night people bring lawn chairs or sit on car hoods and watch the big fireworks' display. We have a couple of other festivals too, but these are the main ones. If you are interested in seeing more of my area, you can click on to: www.Rockport-Fulton.org and it should take you for a virtual visit!
Hope you enjoy it!

I am from that area and the Arts are HUGE.. Jesus Moroles lives in Rockport he has his studio there and in New Mexico.. There is the Shrimporee in Aransas Pass also.. It is huge compared to years ago when it was held in a little park downtown.. I LOVE LOVE that area.. Also is you go further up the coast from Fulton and Goose Island there is the Aransas Wild Life area that the Whooping Cranes come to each winter. Tom Steine is the wildlife biologist that has been an integral part of the resurrection of these beautiful birds.. Corpus Christi is all of 30 miles away from Rockport and there is so many fun things to do there all year also the summer has many events held outside with Reggae fests to Jazz as well as one of the most beautiful art museums designed by Philip Johnson and now has an addition by a Mexican Architect with the last name Figueroa.. Yeah I miss home can you tell LOL.... Smile.. And the sunsets are so beautiful.. And the beach OMG water all around..

It sounds as though Goose Island is a fovorite with several people. Would it be a good place to have a gathering?

Hi,
Glad you joined this little forum-I wouldn't care to go to Goose Island as I'm not a roughing it type person at all, but would certainly drive over for a day. If you decide to meet-please let me know at {email address removed} I'm game to help you anyway I can, so if you need a contact in this area, just let me know. I know some other places here that are also nice and closer to town should we need anything. In fact, I can get a party barn if we need an inside place. That is-if I know soon enough to reserve it (no charge). It has restrooms, a kitchen, et. in case it rained or got cold.
Blessings, Phyllis

If any do decide to visit this area camping is great however there are so many places on the bay in this area that are down right cheap. Most of the places between Fulton and Rockport on the bay have small kitchens and fishing piers. The rates this time of year are down right cheap. from 30 to 40 a night.
Rockport is an area where the Snow Birds flock. The motor home parks start filling starting in October. However all the bay front lodging is available even during duck season. This area attracts fishermen as well as the hunters.
Great place to visit
Also the Fulton mansion is an attraction in of itself. This house was built years before its time. Its open most every day I think.

Hi,
You probably know motels I don't know about, but the Yacht Basin is the cheapest I know-$39.00 with tax included. They took out the kitchenettes but have microfridges and microwaves. I'd count on at least $50 per night because during the winter some places will only rent to the winter people by the week or month. I know Bayfront isn't really expensive-I think about $45-$55. You can look up the motels here online of course, and go from there.
You were right about the Big Tree! They changed the post cards and it says on there-at least 1,000 years old. Funny, it got younger!! When I was young, they thought it was here during the time of Christ.
My yahoo email is quite safe for anyone to use so let me know if I can help anyone, and if anyone wants to get something together.
So until....

Redbronze,
The two local artists I know well are Charles, "PoPo" Cosby (graduated with him) and Steve Russell (used to date him. Both have galleries and are pretty well known around here. Charley gave me the poster (well, a print) he had designed for Oysterfest, and he does great watercolors. Steve does a lot of seascapes and they made a post card of one of his-I know he used to do some western art as well, Indians I think. I don't know when you were here last but we have a Super Wal-Mart now, Qizmo's, Popeye's, and we are supposed to get an IHOP. Are we uptown or WHAT? Aransas Pass beat us and has a Lowe's lumber, Dollar Tree, and Payless!
Take care

I love the art things that are always happening and the beginning and end of the season.. I feel like I am in a wasteland here as there is just now happenings but I keep seeing the same stuff over and over again.. I would love to have the variety that I used to see there.. As you can get the edgier stuff from the University and then the local fishing/shrimpboat paintings.. I miss my friends also.. A lot.. I am leaving Lubbock next year.. I am not sure but I may well just head back to the coast.. Smile.. We are thing a lot about it.. This is for sure...
