This state park is just otside of Utopia. It is a spectacular display of color in the first part of November. The maple trees are every shade from green to yellow to orange to red and the colors are reflected in a blue lake and in the ble waters of the stream which has a white limestone bed. I am from the land of sky-blue waters -- 10,000 lakes -- Minnesota, and before I visited Lost Maples, I thought Texas only had brown lakes. Lost Maples is a little piece of paradise in the fall.

Right off the bat I learned something I never knew about Texas. Thanks, Lacy!
(Yes, I've only seen the brown "ponds" in my travels across the state...and didn't even know maple trees grew there...)

There are even maple trees in the desert here! LOL! Big Bend has maple trees in it too, believe it or not.

~pooh~ how come there aren't any maple trees in THIS desert? Must be the altitude ~sigh~ (I'm a New England Yankee at heart -- I miss maple trees. Uh, I miss TREES, actually! )

About - (gosh it has been longer than I realized!) 17-18 years ago, I lived in Kerrville, and for awhile in Ingram, and my dad, a friend, and son visited Lost Maples. I found it to be so refreshing. I wonder if it's less rugged now? As I recall, there is or was one little store as you entered the grounds. Really a beautiful place to visit.
