There is a fun train ride from Palestine to Rusk that I haven't done in years. The website ie at Texas State Railroad. I think it is in danger of being terminated, which I think would be a real shame.
Is there anyone in that area who knows more about the status of the train?

I don't but sure hope it stays in business-I only know of about three in Texas-The San Antonio/Burnet, dinner tour, the one you mentioned, and I believe there is another one in East Texas-I should look all this up. I saw the one you mentioned, but haven't ridden on it.

That's a good website lacyvsq. There is a petition on there to save the rail-way. I hope that everyone here takes the time to sign the petition. It would be a great loss for the train to be abandon.

Lacyvsq, Palehorse - thank you for the sites info and the petition info.
I had the pleasure of taking a ride on the steam engine train in the fall a few years ago. I love it. Was my very first train ride and it was memorable I would hate for this bit of history to be lost for future generations.
I have signed the petition and sent an email to all my friends encouraging them to do the same and forward this on to their friends. Hopefully we will get the signatures needed to save this train. I have a couple of other sources that I will send this to and let them pass it on.
The thought just occurred to me I recently went to the Richmond/Rosenberg RR museum, which is a very good museum for those that like RR’s and met a lady there who is in the RR model train group that had also been on the Rusk train about the same time I was. There is power in numbers, so maybe she will know people who know people and so on. Six Degrees of separation and all maybe with everyone fighting for this it can be saved.
My mother and sister live up there very close to the Rusk/Palestine train and I plan to visit them in December I will let everyone know the status then. I had already planed on going there and enjoying this again since I was so close and now I will be able to also get the inside scoop on this and see what else I can do.

Back when I was a pup, I had the priviledge of riding the last passenger train run out of San Angelo, Texas. Went with some friends, had a ball.
