The way things are, I may be moving to Texas, as early as next year - or maybe this year..
Soooo... I guess you'll be seeing me here in this forum a lot more often, starting today. Anyways, hi, to you all.

Well okay then... here goes...
Hooowwwdyy y'all!!!!!
What part of TX? It will, in all likelihood, be somewhere in the Houston area, where my aunt and sister live. It's too expensive here in Florida. I've always known we'd have to leave the South Florida area sooner or later. I guess that time is coming real soon. The idea of moving is gonna take some getting used to, however. I will miss it here - but then again, I'll be near some of my family, and I'll get to see my cute little nephew anytime I want to.
And besides, I've always wanted to live in Texas!!!

Houston is hot as hell. And if you don't like the weather just wait an hour or so and it will change. Seen it go from 85 down to the 30's. And hope you like skeeters, it should be our state bird.

Well, Tyler isn't too far from either place. Couple hours from Dallas and maybe 3 or 3 1/2 or so from Houston. Depends how fast you drive and whether you get caught. LOL In Houston you'll still get to look forward to hurricanes, just like So Florida! So you won't get homesick! hehe
Welcome to you too, Red.

You nothing like a hurricane to remind me of Florida. I hope we end up moving on the North side of Houston where it's further inland. I'm pretty used to the heat and skeeters, though. After all, I born and was raised in good ole' N'awlins.
I agree with whatagal, that we should all plan a meet sometime. But not sure when I will be moving. Everything's up in the air right now. My relatives will be coming down from all over the country to help us clean the house up, and then we will, of course, put it up for sale. Not having a time frame for all this is stressful, though. For all I know, they could be coming next week ...or in a couple months. It's like waiting for the mother ship to come take us away. Anyway's we'll see.

Quoting myself:
You nothing like a hurricane to remind me of Florida. lol...My response to my own embarrassingly incomprehensible babble: Eeech!!! I hate typos! I actually meant...
Yeah nothing like a hurricane to remind me of Florida. redbronze:
I am from Texas just leaving Lubbock.. Redbronze, what part of Texas are you moving to? Or are you leaving us and moving to another state?
Well I guess I shouldn't say "us" yet since I have yet to move out of Florida...

Hi, Fuchia! You will feel right at home in Tx. Very much like Florida but lots less expensive to live. They are very expensive there but the wages are less here as well. A friend of mine moved to Florida for a great paying job only to find out it was that expensive to live and he did not make any more there than he did here after cost of living. Hurricanes in here are MUCH less frequent since most batter Florida and in between before they bother heading towards us. WE are WAY more protected here. Welcome!

I have seen a few. A dead one, too, after Rita. On the beach. I have seen one in the road to Winnie from Crystal Beach snapping at passing cars that veered around it.

Yes, do not come to the beach after heavy rainfall. The housing near much of Crystal Beach is on septic systems. Narsty water after heavy rains. Give it a few days. The only time I saw a gator on the beach was dead. I am sure it came from a slough. They do not like salt water. Brackish, yes. At the time of Rita, the waters went way out from the beach. It may have been sucked out to sea and washed back onto the beach.

We even have an occasional 'gator up here in Tyler, though most are housed in the Caldwell Zoo. LOL They like to saunter up the spillways and we sometimes see them in the "bayou" areas after heavy rains when the water is high. But mostly there's just a lot of catfish in those, and lot's of "flood fishing" they call it.
I also like to idea of doing a get-together. A few years ago I was on another group and we talked about just that, and it was even a group with people from all over. Some of us took it upon ourselves to organize something and we ended up having a weekend gathering at one member's house. It was pretty cool. Being all in one general area might make it somewhat easier though. Hopefully!
