Reported Suspicious Man Sparks Concern By WOL Staff
THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- An e-mail has been circulating to Woodlands residents about an alleged "attempted child abduction" in College Park. The email states that an attempted abduction occurred at the Taco Cabana restaurant located on SH 242 in College Park. However, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office has investigated the incident and declared that no crime took place and that the email contains false information.
According to police, on Monday, February 11, a suspicious person was reported at Taco Cabana restaurant. The male suspect sat down next to a woman and her three children and engaged the children in conversation. He asked the children to go look at his puppy inside his van. When the woman and children left the restaurant the suspect also exited without finishing his food. After he followed her out, the woman became alarmed and returned to the restaurant with her children. A restaurant employee then wrote down the license plate number from the suspect's van.
MCSO deputies conducted a field investigation and were able to identify the suspect. MCSO deputies along with Harris County Pct.4 constables responded to the man's home in Harris County and made contact with him. The entire incident was documented, but it was ruled that no criminal conduct had occurred and no charges were brought against the suspect.
The e-mail that later followed did contain some truth as to what occurred during the incident, but it falsely stated that there had been other similar incidents on SH 242 and at a nearby park. According to police, these incidents have not been verified or reported. Montgomery County Crime Analysts were unable to locate any other incidents with similar details reported to the Conroe Police Department or the Harris County Pct. 4 Constables Office. The e-mail also alleged that the license plates on the suspect's van were stolen, which police have said is untrue.
Woodlands Online will continue to monitor the situation and report any additional information as it becomes available. http://www.woodlandsonline.com/npps/story.cfm?nppage=23824
