It it just me or are most of us guys being overwhelmed with messages from 'local' people that are really in Nigeria, South Africa, or somewhere other than LOCAL! Sorry to say but I'll stick to a pay site that has genuine locals vs posing locals. 3/4 of all the emails I receive are (canceled) within a few days TOPS. So I never respond to anyone on here till a few days have passed. But even then you still don't know. Am I alone in this???

No, you're not alone in this. About every other mail I get on here is from a poser who has been cancelled. It's best to wait a few days to see if they are cancelled or not. Wise move.

Nope, you are not alone in this! For me waiting a few days is best, since they are usually canceled by that point. This wait I can wait, and talk to real people that are actually in the United States.

Oh, I get those e-mails once in awhile and look upon them as an opportunity to have some fun. To my last e-mailer - with a female name - I posed as Puggsley Addams and reminded her of the time she babysat me and my sister, Wednesday. I told her that our butler, Lurch, was kinda sweet on her and then updated her on the rest of the family. Sadly, my e-mailer canceled her (his?) account on MD before they could read what I wrote. Oh well! I'm sure another one will come along soon.

Well, I have been baited by pay sites before...Match.com to be exact. They have someone send you an email to make you pay to answer them then after a few emails, they make up a reason for ignoring you. I found that out a year or so after it happened that they were caught doing that...but go right on ahead and pay some site and see if you can find better.
I found my man here. And he is awesome. Go into the forums and get to know the real people here. Yeah, some of us are pretty kooky, but you just might find one kooky in just the same way you are. I see you have posted ONE post since you were here. Try a few more to get to know people. Very few scammers are in the forums.
At least you don't pay to get scammed here.

This is the reason I only have a free account on MD. I really don't want to pay for more SPAM.
This is a controversial site and may offed some but check out www.ebolamonkeyman.com - A scam the scammer

My rule of thumb is anyone that sends me their email address on the first message gets no response whatsoever. I might mark them as spam, but usually I could care less. Open, close and move on.

Some have learned from threads NOT to post emails at first. They see people are wise to that. SOME scammers DO read threads and blogs which is why I tell people not to post that stuff everywhere. Keep the scammers dumb so the less educated people about scammers don't get ripped off so easy.

Ask people you have seen a lot if they are ok with sharing info and then ask them about advice on how to figure out the scammers. Instead of broadcasting it all over the web like this thread is. When people start new threads about how to tell who is a scammer, I refuse to post to it. How do you know they are not scammers looking for info on how to scam? We had someone do that here once.
He said scammer stuff all the time then started a thread asking how to best write people emails. I sure stated MY feelings on that thread. It died out shortly after. If you do not know how to meet people by emails, go to the forums and meet them.
Seriously, don't educate the scammers.

I'll educate them here ...if I do actually respond to an email and don't get a direct answer to a question that I make very obvious, then they failed that test. If they didn't provide their email address in the first message, they usually do in the second. All I'm really saying is most are so obvious it doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell the diff and simply ignore them. Why waste time and energy worrying about them when they are so obvious? I care more about the ones that are smart and clever, but haven't found anyone like that yet. Plus, all they are after is money and no real date I care about would be looking for that although there are plenty of "real" profiles that fall into that category as well that can't hurt me at all because I won't let anyone get that far in cyberspace.

Yeah, you are worse than me about being impatient. I do it the cheaper way tho. I make them go on webcam and NO excuses. They have to closely match at least one of their pictures or I know they are liars. They have to HAVE pictures.
The thing about the webcams is, if they claim to not be able to afford a webcam or a newer puter to run a webcam, they are too poor to be looking for a relationship and are there to suck up your financial energy. Webcams are cheap and a new puter can be had for small change and most companies would give you credit to buy a newer model.
If their credit is so bad they can't deal with that or their puters are that out of date or they 'can't afford a cam' (which cost, what...$20?), RUN! RRRRRRUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNN! They are after your money. Don't take no for an answer or 'I can't'. THOSE are excuses to hide something. If nothing else, they are married or in a relationship and afraid to show their picture for fear of getting caught.
Oh, and to protect yourself from them, Matchdoctor has month to month memberships that are VERY cheap...that has webcam included so they can't use your private email to track you down. NEVER give out your private emails.
Oh, and remember...no excuses for no pictures either. They come up with EXCELLENT excuses which also all boils down to the same damn thing... cons.

Okay, I'm not flaming you guys but I wouldn't cancel my account just because of a SPAMMER/Scammer sending me an email. Just hit the freakin' delete key and move on. What's da big deal?
The emails are easy to spot, broken English, new account, not even remotely close to your location, etc., etc., and MD seems to be pretty good on shutting down these accounts down quickly.
Closing your account guarantee's you will not meet that special someone on MD

What he said!!! ^^^ Hey, mark them as spam first then after their account is canceled, THEN delete them. When I first came into MD, I waited til the new mark got off my profile before I ever posted any forum posts or emailed anyone. If they say new.... they are pretty used to messing around if they are sending emails out right away.
I have seen more people hook up here IN the forums and blogs.

ya, it is easy enough to press the 'Delete' Key, but after doing it every day and never connecting with anyone local... kinda SUX! I did however find a site that I have had a lot of success on that is also free which is Plenty of Fish. At least there I don't get spammed Every day with fakes and i have met some interesting people on there so far. If there are some local Texas people around here, then email other Texans! The Foreigners are beating ya to the punch daily! LOL
Anyhow, after reading all of your emails, I decided to wait a month and go from there. Thanks for the input and advice all!
