Attention Children The Bathroom Door is Closed!

Please do not stand here and talk, whine, or ask questions.

Wait until I get out.

Yes, it is locked. I want it that way. It is not broken, and I am not trapped.

I know I have left it unlocked, and even open at times, since you were born, because I was afraid some horrible tragedy might occur while I was in there, but it's been 10 years and I want some PRIVACY.

Do not ask me how long I will be. I will come out when I am done.

Do not bring the phone to the bathroom door.

Do not go running back to the phone yelling "She's in the BATHROOM!"

Do not begin to fight as soon as I go in.

Do not stick your little fingers under the door and wiggle them. This was funny when you were two.

Do not slide pennies, LEGOs, or notes under the door. Even when you were two this got a little tiresome.

If you have followed me down the hall talking, and are still talking as you face this closed door, please turn around, walk away, and wait for me in another room. I will be glad to listen to you when I am done.

And yes, I still love you.

Mom

...Sounds sort of familiar for Dad's as well.

...But then again, has anyone ever seen an out house with just one seat? No, they all have two or more...

You mean I'm not the only one?

WHEW!

Oh, the bathroom is the only room in my home with a door lock. Makes for a good place to escape sometimes. Or is this just to weird?

I found if I just didn't close it all the way, my daughter has lost the challenge!

LOL... So, Loreli, it looks like you found the secret! Take away the challenge and eliminate the banging and attempts to get inside.

Cute...

I don't even have kids, but I still use it as a library. It is one place that for a few minutes each day, you are interruption or distraction free.

I bet if I added it all up, I have learned more in the bathroom than I ever did at school.

Good thing the reading came early in school......

i will always love the notes slipped under the bathroom door & another favorite is when they stick their fingers under the door & wiggle them at me.

I learned when my first son was crawling to just not shut the door...anytime I am in the bathroom the door is always as open as it could ever be...and the kids just roam on past...now it's a matter of remembering to shut it when people are over lol...if you shut a door you shut them out...they become nosey...yet if you leave it open they feel it is nothing special and become unconcerned with you.

Cured my kids of this a few years back... I had gone into the bathroom when all hell broke loose.. all of them at the door talking though it .. I opened the door and told them all to come inside.. made them turn around so not to be facing me and closed the door while I did my business... and each of them holding their noses and gaggin (excessively Im sure) and whining the whole time... I know.. gross huh?/ but yanno what I have never had that problem again

I remember the chubby bowling pin fingers wiggling under the door. I remember her coming in wearing her Barbie nighty and reading me "Left foot, right foot" while I shaved my legs. I remember her bringing me a handful of grapes because she thought I would be so very hungry after soaking for all that time.

Being a mom is the bomb!

I remember plunking my 3 1/2 year old in front of Lady and the Tramp, while the 5 year old was at school. Filling the tub, and before climbing in for a cherished 1/2 hour, telling her..."Under no circumstances do you answer the door or phone. If your movie stops, or if you need me, I'm right here." And 10 minutes into the bath, the door swinging open, she's standing there with her little friend of the same age, saying, "See? I told you she was in the bath."
Sweet times, indeed. Being a mom IS the bomb.

oh and here i thought you just teach your child to respect other peoples privacy and boundaries...silly me! This is actually something i have been working with my 4 year old with...and he seems to get the concept. closed door = privacy

To this day I could never figure out for certain why quite often when I took a shower, it sounded like al hell broke loose in the house quite often, but when I got out, everything was as calm as could be
