Because the older the boys get the more they`d rather play with more adult-like toys..bigger boys are more into video games and putting together model cars and such..at least my boys were..

how old is he?

I've also noticed that there really aren't as many toys now as there were not but 10-15 years ago when i was into toys. Mostly just balls and video games, toy cars, and a hand full of different types of action figures now. Hell when i was a lil kid there were two isles at walmart for toys geared towards boys, now theres half of one. No GhostBusters, Ninja Turtles, or He-Man, Only a few Marvel or DC comic action figures. In fact all they really have is whatever movie is hot, G.I. Joe and the cheap new Transformers. Then ofcourse after a certain age, there just aren't toys for boys.

IMO, by that age, so many of them are into sports-playing, watching, etc. Most are happy with a bicycle and video sets. At that age, my kids were into soccer, hockey, football, baseball, basketball and needed sports equipment, not toys. So they never asked me! But, your son is right-dolls up the yingyang nowdays, and those stupid makeup sets that they are way too young for. Amongst other things.

Well I suppose I could quit being such a pain in his a** and just let him start playing with all those things IN THE HOUSE on rainy days.......(sigh).....Hoped it wouldn't come to that, but I guess I'm a horrible mom for buying him all those things and then NOT letting him play with them in the house. My bad!

Was really just wondering if any other parents or their kids (as in my case) noticed that the pre-teen boy toys had pretty much been disappearing from the stores. He gets bored with action figures, and his playstation just doesn't hold his attention for very long. He says he's too old for lincoln logs and lego's only go so far. He does have that Zero Gravity thingy-ma-jingy, but I can only handle listening to it climb the walls for so long, and to be honest our place just isn't big enough for all the remote control cars/trucks/planes/hummer/ etc etc that he has.

Maybe this is just a problem in my area.

Guilty?? No. Just thought that some adults might have noticed that there is indeed a dwindling surplus of pre-teen boy toys at the stores these days. And no. It doesn't rain everyday. But it sure did rain a lot in April. Usually does. Which is how my son and I came to be on this topic in the first place. He's an avid baseball player and loves being outside and on the go. He's very creative but you can only sit with art supplies and so forth for so long before it becomes boring (he's still a kid after all). It was just something that he noticed so I thought I would put it to others and see if they had noticed. I suppose I should have been a little more specific in my original thread.

Didn't realize that childrens toys was such a touchy topic.......lol

Just a quick note....most of what I type is usually meant to be funny. I certainly didn't intend to offend. If I did offend then my apologies.

not just toys either Harley, the same goes with boys clothing, so much to choose from for girls, so limited for boys! (especially in the toddler stage) Can be frustrating shopping for boys! My nephew is 11 and seems he has more fun taking stuff apart than playing with things! Give him a set of batteries and you never know whats gonna come flying across the room...

Because bigger boys should be interested in things other than toys. Like... investigating the outdoors, exploring, finding out, reading, playing games, sports, running around outside, etc.

Thank You, Lee

To quote my mother, MSRIP

"Get outside and play"

She was right and play we did, in rain & snow, without store bought things......

I don't have a son at that age anymore, but I do remember having trouble finding gifts for them at that age. Now my daughter is that age too and she doesn't really "play" with many toys anymore. She is into sports and "how to" projects, crafty type things such as painting, making jewerly, clay and things of that sort. What about board games? Even my high school and college age kids love to play these when we are all together.

My son's were in every possible sports! But on rainy days throughout the month I would buy baseball cards, football, etc etc....and bought an album and sports book on what cards were worth something. They would constantly change there card books to what was worth the most *now*......just some food for thought!

This is the very reason I've come to dread holidays and birthdays. Eleven seems to be the inbetween stage for boys and there really isn't anything out there for them as far as toys go and they sure don't appreciate clothes too much yet. My son will be 11 next month and I have no idea what to get him. We've started planning trips and such for birthdays and holidays instead of so many unused presents. Not that that does me any good on rainy days.

My son was only interested in bikes and skateboards (video games too, but only for so long), so I had the same problem trying to keep him entertained during the winter, rainy days, etc. I ended up buying him a used stationary bike (actually bought it for myself, I thought) and he ended up using it every day to burn off a little of that energy.

I still have one in the house, and when my friend comes over with his boys, they head straight for it!

Lego's are for all ages!!!!
My youngest son is now 21 and he bought himself a huge box(again) a couple of years ago.

I remeber he built a huge castle from them when he was around 12 or 13.

Of course, he had a Sega and a Nintendo too.
