Cowboy’s loosely meaning men like Sam Elliot, and 30% John Wayne men, treat women like fragile china – 35% and being afraid of making the wrong move and yelled at the rest of the time. This was women being empowered if you really examine it.
Thoughts?

a cowboy in my eyes is a man who will treat his woman right and wait on her hand and foot as well as go out and work 8 to 12 hours a day

Cowboys, now why would women need cowboys, but have been called one at a time or two, but not sure what it ment, i respect women, place them on the same playing field as i am one, you want respect and responsability, then it has to be earned, sometimes easy sometimes difficult

I guess women in general have an idea of what kind of man makes them feel special. If a "southern gentlemen" is what makes you feel special...then it works for ya darlin..:)

My idea of a cowboy is one that is born and raised in the country and can turn his hand to anything, and for a relationship its always 50/50 i dont want a man to do everything for me I want a man to do everything with me.

I know exactly what Steph means. And, except in (apparently) a very few men these days, these qualities are very rare..
It was a time of women being treated like women. Doors held, chairs pulled out and held while the lady is seated. The car door unlocked and opened BEFORE the man gets in the car, the door to the store, restaurant or house held open so the women can pass first. Flowers for no particular reason at all, you could demonstrate a little flirt, worship and love for your lady, Unfortunately, the angries that never had that from their men drummed up an ugly little term for those courtesies and affections men used to show their women: patriarchal enslavement.
What these demonstrations really show is respect, regard toward your woman, and was back when men being protective and loving and decent to their women was a requirement and was expected, and appreciated by the women so treated. And Steph is right. Women were much more empowered back when that was the appreciated and desired relationship between men and women of mutual affection.
I for one, would never date a woman that felt differently on the subject..

Cowboy is a state of mind, a set of values, a moral code. A code best summed up by The Duke in his last film "The Shootist". "I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to people and I require the same of them". As to a woman's "Empowerment" (ain't that a $10.00 word), no man worth the food he eats would deny one on one with his lady...that she holds the hammer.
