has anyone ever had to deal with people giving them crap about seeing them on an online dating site? I'm from a very small town. I have been on here less than a month and removed my photo because of the bs comments from others in my town of 502 people. of course i could just ask what the heck they were doing on here. is online dating considered to be the last desperate act? my though is the pond (rephrase the puddle) here is not swimming with fish. anyone else have this problem?

i live in a small town, and it is the same in all small towns. I don't think online dating is the last desparate act, I think it is opening your choices to someone who is better for you than the small town "fish" you see everyday. If you wouldn't date them before, why would you want to date them now???

I also come from a small town. Here is what you tell them the next time they give you crap. " I am looking for a gene pool, not a mud puddle." And don't forget the have a nice day. That's my favorite part.

what can I say, years of pent up aggression towards my "transplant" home town (I say that because I moved there in like the sixth grade). I hated them, they hated me it was all good. But to tell you the truth, I would like a family tree, not a family wreath that I could hang on my door every Christmas time. They really brought a whole new meaning to "kissing cousins" *shudder*

It takes a special kind of insecurity to browse dating sites looking for people you might know. I'd proudly post your pic and tell them to get a life. If they don't listen, post their profile with a pic (j/k) ...incest ...ewwww.

agreed, tornprince, agreed. If they honestly have the much of a problem with it, then why are they on the site themselves? talk about hipocracy.

I am currently trapped in a small town, at least I'm not related to any of these morons around here. Well, there are a few cool individuals but I don't think I'd be caught trying to date any of them. My last ex is from here and she cheated on me for 4 or 5 months before I confronted her on it and we ended things. Unfortunately I'm trapped here for a little while longer before moving on to a bigger city.
Yes, I did run into somebody else who was raised here, she's sort of cool and I've gotten to talk to her on occasion. But she thinks this town is as bad as I do hence her not being here! LOL
I haven't run into this exact problem yet and I am hoping I never do. More likely than not, though, if I do have this sort of problem I'll repost their profile with many smartalecy remarks! :D

Hey, I live in Redgranite, population 1000. Was born in Coon Rapids, Minn. which is equally small( Well, it was 30 years ago). I have met alot of local folks whom I know on other sites, mostly MySpace. And when I get sh*t for it, I ask them why they describe themselves as average build, or good looking, or a Good guy? I know them and I know the truth, so just tell them to go pee up a rope. If they we're worth your time, you wouldn't be browsing on these sites. (Neither would any of us).

So I have one question here...everyone is complaining about their horrible small towns and kissing cousins ect...its a small town what do you expect. If you don't like it then why dont you move instead of constantly bitching about how horrible the people are? People from small towns are very close minded...part of the reason I left my home town!

thats fine that you are moving up and out...but I am talking about the people who stay forever and bitch about how shitty their life is and how they cant get a good paying job or find a decent man ect. You talk shit about everyone in your town...but in reality you are slapping yourself in the face because you are one of "those" that you are talking about in the first place!

For what it's worth... I was born and raised in Chicago. They are known to be one of the bigger towns. For every available gal there, there are three or four men vying for their attention. It wasn't all wine and roses there, either.

I was bugged by this weirdo I have known my entire life.He was in this one bar and he privately came up to me and said,"I see you have an internet dating profile".He acted like I was on there for free sex.I basically blew him off as it it not a big deal.Sheesh! What an idiot. This is the guy who offered me money many years ago. He is the grossest thing I ever saw, met, knew.ICK! Maybe he thought I was 'ready' now.NEVER in a million years.

Los Angeles here I come. Staci, if you move to LA, you won't be doing much dating; you'll be having to work two jobs just to pay rent! The cost of living is through the stratosphere out there...
