No idea! I think Calgarians are more uptight, snobby....more white collar, so they think they are better.
The reason I stay in Calgary? Family, close to the mountains, the bike paths....

It's the age-old issue of civic rivalry, I guess...is Calgary really better than Edmonton? Is Chicago really better than Milwaukee? Is Seattle really better than Tacoma? Is New York really better than Philadelphia? Is Cincinnati really better than Cleveland?
You get the idea.
Some of this is good; civic pride keeps cities from becoming stagnant...hopefully it is mellowed by civility and the shared experiences of living in any city.
BTW: Milwaukee kicks ass!

I agree that the rivalry keeps the cities from becoming stagnant...but then again have you ever worn an Edmonton jersey at a Calgary game? People are very hostile towards you suddenly. I really dont see how this is making things better. As for bike paths...Edmonton has bike paths as well. Cycling threw the river vally is beautiful. All and all i think the cities are the same...except Edmonton has West Edmonton Mall and Calgary has the Zoo.
Am i wrong ??

There is no zoo in Edmonton?? Most Flames fans are bandwagon jumpers. Me, I have always hated them....

Well Edmonton does have a zoo...but Calgary's is better. I have also found that most Edmonton fans jump on and off the wagon depending on if they are winning or losing.

have you ever worn an Edmonton jersey at a Calgary game? Not much different than wearing a Packers jersey at a Bears game.

Of course, as someone pointed out its all about those 'civic rivalries' and its all the more with competing NHL Hockey teams. I have lived in both cities and heard all the standards: "Edmonton... thats a dirty unattractive looking city." "Calgary... thats where they play 'electric cowboy' wearing suits and boots "
Honestly, I do admit Calgary is a very very clean organised and tightly designed downtown. Edmonton actually does have some very beautiful angles but yes it has always had filthy unkempt and ugly industrial areas. Honestly, Calgary really does have a huge population of 'non-Albertans' and too many are pretending to be 'texas style cowboys'. A business man from Toronto who has transfered to Head office from Calgary and now has a Cowboy Hat ugh.
Id sum it up this way though - Edmonton has character but Calgary has no soul.
*oh.. did I mention Im from Edmonton lol

Well, it's only going to get worse people, so prepare yourselves. Calgary is poised to become the next major economic entities in this country. Being realtively close location to the oil sands and favorable shipping routes, Calgary is going to leave Edmonton in the dust. If you like money, it's the place you need to be.

Ok so as the only Calgarian to reply I find most of what you have said about Calgary wrong. Both cities have there good and bad points. I am a sales rep and I spend a lot of time in both cites I grew up in Red Deer so I was right in the middle of the 2. Calgary is certainy more white collar than Edmonton but there is a lot of Blue collar people here too. We both have our good and bad neighborhoods. Edmonton has developed a bad reputation based a lot on crime stats ( Murder capital of Canada) I enjoy going to both cities they both have there good and bad qualities Edmonton is the capital of Alberta Calgary is the finacial hub of Alberta Calgary is second only to Metro Toronto for Head offices in Canada. I think we can agree that both cities have good and bad neiborhoods. Edmonton cerainly does have more industrial areas giving it a rougher look. Calgarians aren't arrogant or bandwagon jumpers when the Oilers made there playoff run we cheered for them because they are our neihbor and fellow Canadians. Just like Edmonton did when Calgary had it's playoff run or Ottawa had it's.

I was born and raised in Calgary...I remember what it was like before all these rude pricks moved here, with their massive egos. The most obvious? On the roads, when you let someone in, and they DO NOT wave. I would be happy with 50,000 fewer people....I guess I miss the way it was....
