I finally saw this movie and it made me feel like dancing! I thought I'd start this thread to find out who else likes to dance. When I was young I learned several "ball-room" dances and at least once a month went to a formal dance at a club we were members of. Even though I have not done it in years, I would love to dance again!
So, please share which are your fave rythms and why and if there's any others you'd like to learn. If you don't dance but would like to learn, please list what you'd like to learn and why.
Here's my list:
1. Merengue - very energetic, "happy" and sexy. 2. Salsa - same as above. 3. Cha-cha-cha - same as above. 4. Bolero (slow dance) - sexyyyy.... With a little practice I think I could probably still do the waltz, a little mambo and the Colombian cumbia.
Want to learn (because they're American and seem fun):
1. Two-step. 2. Swing.

I adore dancing, especially couples dancing. I stick more to the country side of things, though.
I grab a partner for:
two-step western swing shaddish sidekick El Paso waltz western nickle
Just remember your cowboy boots or make sure the heels you're wearing have a heel strap.
I know some very easy line dances, but not many. I use those songs for cool-down breaks.

Oooh oooh!! Are we gonna dance???
If you like cruises, it's merengue time!! Most cruises have at least one session of merengue lessons each night...last year my partner and I took second (out of about 30+ couples, my roomie took first), and NEXT week we're cruising again!!
My all time favorite is the tango (the sexiest, especially Argentine - ay ay ay!), then rumba, then bolero (which is really kind of a slow rumba, you're right Latin, very sexy), cha cha, salsa, merengue's the easiest and lots of fun.
Fox trot's a lot more fun than you'd think until you start to do it (grapevine steps are a kick if you have a big floor), peabody is an absolute blast, I love east coast swing, can't abide west coast (probbly cuz I'm from Noo Yawk), Arizona two step's a hoot, so's Texas, but believe it or not, the most totally exhausting dance is the waltz, and the Viennese waltz is not only demanding it's downright dangerous if your footwork's off.
Ya think I love to dance????? Oh yeah, baby!
Side note - in Argentine tango, the lead's done by using the torso, not the hands, and it's so intimate that it's got its own etiquette. A man doesn't embarrass a woman by asking her to dance, he gives her 'the look'. If she looks away, neither of them are embarrassed in front of other people, if she smiles, they dance. Etiquette also demands that if she looks away, she cannot accept a dance with another, so essentially she's told him it's 'nothing personal'...

I love dancing! My ex and I took country dance lessons through the radio station here (many years ago)- we were asked to tour with them! I would have loved to! When we learned the waltz, the guy teaching was super-graceful, (this is myyy frame, this is youuur frame) we learned 2 step 3 step slide boot scoot waltz jitterbug (how fun!) barn dance sway cha cha many many line dances
I'd love to learn latin dancing-all of them-how sexy!
(oh-I think I can still do the hustle too! )

Did somebody say dance????
I'm there!!!! I'll dance to anything!!!!
Swing.... I was just in about the 4th grade when my mom made my older brother (9th grade) dance with me at the noon "sox hops". He of course hated it.
Swing again & Big Band -- I was married to a non-dancer who refused to learn. Friends took us out to a special dinner/dance pavillion in Los Angeles with some Big Band. I'm not one for wasting money.... if I saw a table dancer unattached or otherwise, I would politely ask his wife if I could borrow her husband for a dance.
Charleston Irish Jig Line Dancing Ball Room -- lots & lots of twirls & swirls
Polka -- nothing like ostentatiously taking up the whole dance floor!
Tango -- I was brave enough to learn a very rough version "ON" the dance floor in a club. Of course I had great incentive... a smooth Latino!
Embarrassed my children dancing in New Orleans Square in Disneyland. (An annual event.)
I dance in front of the tv. Dance to CDs to do my Saturday morning cleaning. Dance down the grocery store isles (well, toe tap & thigh slap while searching the shelves.)
The latest I would love to learn.... I just saw at our local Farmer's Market. Must be an Indian dance as they were dancing to the drummers. It was beautiful! A slower version of a belly dance or hula!
Yep..... another dancer here!

Hey Pali...one of my favorite quotes...nobody cares if you can't dance well, just dance!
(another's that you should never worry about who's watching you, you'd be amazed at how few people really care what you're doing!)

I tried to dance once, but I was so bombed I couldn't walk which proved my long standing theory that I couldn't dance unless I was too drunk to walk.

I really enjoy the latin dances....I think because it's structured and fun....and it takes a strong leading man to make the dance look great. I've taken some free lessons and learned from my friends so most of my knowledge is more of a "street" type of dance than a classroom setting.
Merengue - so much fun, sexy Salsa - fun, complex, sexy Bachata (not sure of spelling on that one) - slow, sexy, lovers dance
Would love to learn
Ballroom Swing

no bragging but dancing is what I do best. I got incredible moves baby. I went to the nightclub yesterday but wasn't what I hoped. I could see guys just jumping around without acually following the rhythm of the music
