You're really not supposed to do that......Im sure lots of people do it and dont even know they do it. I would think that sinus problems could cause this.....ya still need to breathe no matter if you are eating or not.
I can honestly say its never bothered me though......me and my buddies are like a bunch of cave men ripping apart a bloody carcass at mealtimes. To each his/her own.

NO! YUK! It's absolutely gross! And a lot of people do it. What's worse are those who insist on eating and talking with their mouth full of food! I don't want to see what they chewing up!!!

Meh. I couldn't care less about people who chew with their mouth open. Maybe I just haven't seen anyone do it badly enough.
I have a worse problem with people who spit on the sidewalk or smoke in a crowd.

it bothers me to see someone chewing with their mouth open and food coming out...i get on my kids for this all the time too.
but...i have heard that most foods are suppose to taste better when chewn with a slightly opened mouth....how true THAT is....i don't know???
