i was talking to a friend last night and saying how strange it is for me to say goodbye to female friends and also say, "love you" but when i chat to male friends i say goodbye and no "love you". i don't use the word as freely to men as i do women...and that bothered me. but he told me this: "Ya know, it is the hardest thing in the world to tell someone you love them, because you are making yourself vunerable....open to being hurt...." and he added, "LOve is such a strange thing, meaning different things to different people."....
i guess i can say this is why i have never been "IN LOVE" before...but have loved the person for who they are....
geee, now that was deep...well for me it was! just something that has been botherin me and wanted to share.. and for all of you (you know who you are) thanks for being there for me...i LOVE you!

Up until about 5 years ago I had a difficult time saying "I love you" to anyone. These days......I want my family and my friends to know how much they mean to me. I was talking to my supervisor on the telephone last week, before I hung up I said, "love ya Cathy". You see the people I work with are just an extension of my family. It's important to me to let people know how I feel about them.
With that said........I love you people on MD, you guys Rock!!!!

Sometimes I want to say it but I'm not sure it's appropriate.

Danger, i too, tell all people at many many times, I love you! And of course i love people!! But i got an email from a lady only 3 weeks ago, and she said because of the way her ex husband acted and would tell all women he loved them and run around with them while she was with him, that i needed to get out of the forums, and my reply, was excuse me ma'am, but I'm not your ex husband, and i will continue to LOVE people, and i still LOVE you too as my fellow human being, but now i feel sorry for you, hope you get out of your pain, and then clicked block...Wow oh Wow,...a person telling me, that doesn't even know me, i cannot love people, not going to happen...By the way...I love Y'all...Earl

I'm one of those who doesn't say it often or easily, not unless it's my family or really close friends.
It also makes me uncomfortable to have someone say it to me, when I don't feel particularly close to that person. It's like being around a hugger.
I guess I'm just contrary that way.

I only say it when I mean it. I say it to my family, always. I do have a few friends that I love, but "love" is not a word I toss around lightly. I don't really like anyone saying it to me either, when I know we don't have that kind of a friendship yet. Hugs are fine though.

Razzi, as I mentioned in the boob/bra thread...Becky's hugs are memorable. Even for straight girlies

I don't really like anyone saying it to me either, when I know we don't have that kind of a friendship yet. Hugs are fine though. I think I'm more like that, too...although I'll type "luv ya" (and those 'qualifiers' Becky mentioned)
To me, genuine l-o-v-e, and especially Love, with a capital "L", are very personal and private and I'll never say it if I don't mean it down to the tip of my toes -- it's a committment, one that I have never ever taken lightly...

...Saying "I love you" is stepping out there in vulnerability land; especially if not reciprocated. I have to wonder sometimes, if people are feeling love, lust, or simply with an agenda...
...Until I know for certain, I never use those three words. But, I may say "I love what you are doing to me!" .... does that count?

Hi Gemini, from your words i have seen in the forums, it's obvious to me you care about people. And i when i first meet a person, i am carefull, i will start out with I care about you, or, i hope things are going well for you. But, you are a good person, and i want to tell you, i hope you're doing good Gemini, and hope to be a friend....Earl
