Not talking about pot or trying a few things in college. I mean people have been big drug users over a period of like 5 years or more. Like X or cocaine.
I know someone who flies off the handle big time and can't control his emotions any better than a 2 year old.Could just be spoiled but I think it is more than that. He mentioned that he had a history of drug use and his short term memory is bad. Could the anger and acting out issues be related? He's big time Jekyl and Hyde.

Yeah, i knew tons of them in high school. One of my old old friends just died from an oxycontin overdose, we're not sure if it was a suicide or not, but he was found in his bedroom. It's very sad, really. I know people that travel an hour up to Patterson just to get an 8 ball of coke, they do it all in one day.
I don't know where 80% of these people are today, and I'm worried because one of the girls was one of my best friends since like third grade. A lot of them did it to escape bad family situations. One girl started in response to her mother's murder.

Yes, actually, I met one on this site one time. He left our date after about ten minutes. I thought he just wasn't impressed with me (which was hard to believe) but he turned out to be a major crack addict and needed a "fix". I ended up not dating him, but getting him help through my doctor and a twelve step program, and have heard that he is clean today, but this is rare. Anger and acting out is common among drug users. It's also possible that he is bi-polar however, or has some other personality disorder because often these people become drug addicts if not treated with the proper medications and/or counseling and it doesn't necessarily mean he is still using.

I actually was not that clear, I meant to ask if past drug use makes your brain do this. Like the chemistry got permanently screwed up? It does make sense that some mental disorder brought him to the drugs anyway. I've never seen a grown man have so many fits in my life!

The answer is absolutely yes. Long term use of most drugs will do permanent brain damage, and will affect the seratonin levels in the brain which regulate mood and behavior. There are psychiatric drugs that can help with this such as anti-depressants and mood stabilizers.

I used cocaine regularly for a period of about 3 or 4 years, and no it has not affected me long-term. Whilst I was using I was certainly moody and irrational, but that wore off literally just a few months after I quit.

Long term drug use, especially of cocaine and it's derivitaves does have permanent pathological changes to personality-- of course, this is amplifying pre-existant antisocial behaviors.

Waiting is correct .... Drugs (especially LSD) will do permanent damage to your brain. It is possible that he need to be on some type of drug to help his temperment even out.
Sometimes drug damage to your brain can be the same as being chemically off balanced because you have damaged certain cells in your brain.
Look up articles of it on the internet, print it off and ask him to seek help. He cleaned his body from it - now he needs to clear his brain from it.

After my x walked out on me, he and his then g/f did the drug scene (coke and God know's what else) for 5 years, he said he quit when she went to prison for it. Now he's remarried to another "youngster" who went to school with our daughter and it was well-known back then that she was a druggie when she was in school and for years after. My x swears he's off drugs (but he's lied to me before...ha), whenever I do see him he seems straight but something about him is off-kilter. He has that haunted look in his eyes, don't know if it's still drugs or that now he realizes what a fool he's been (he told me he was when he apologized to me a few months ago) and how his kids and g/kids have minimal (almost none) contact with him. Yes, drugs do have a lingering affect, one way or another, that's what I believe.

Ever known a former druggie? Nope.......all the druggies I knew are still druggies. I have known a few who claimed to be "former druggies".......but they were lying and were really still druggies.
Hard to shake that druggie-shit.

My cousin-in-law's cousin (which makes him pretty detached from me) was the son of a car dealer and he was found dead in his front yard after a night of partying. Everyone went home from the party then the next morning my cousin-in-law went back to visit him with his girlfriend to find him dead on the lawn of his wonderful house. Yup, he had a lot of money and toys and everything going for him except for a strong enough heart to handle his drug habit of cocaine and hard alcohol. I met him one time and thought that he had an entertaining personality to say the least. Too bad he did not control his vices.

I've a niece thats a meth addict... she's been in and out of the drug habit since she was 14... the experts talk about that meth stuff in such scary terms.... so many folks experiment in their youth, but the new designer drugs etc,.. are so addictive, and do so much damage....
some folks used drugs in the past, quit and seem to be productive good folks, but these new drugs are scary....

So true regarding the scary part grumble ... research on methamphetamine has demonstrated it to cause long term brain damage as far as cell loss goes and can permanently affect the "thinking" part of the brain. It is one of the most powerful addictive stimulants today, and the negative consequences are numerous. People are lucky if they ever are able to stop using some of today's new drugs as addictive as they are now being produced.

My Ex husband was a druggie and my brother. The effects on both of them are very apparent.

In the big city of Houston Texas, those of my age of 50 saw and knew many drugies. That ls one reason i never did the stuff, because they stayed in constant trouble plus jail plus their mind got more and more confused......Earl

This is an awefully depressing thread, has anyone noticed that? Well, anyway at least your letting loose some feelings of dismay, maybe that's healthy.

I knew a guy who said someone shot him up with crack when he was drunk, he said he never asked for it and was addicted after one time! I hope that was an exxagerration. Otherwise I expect that if this happened to me, since I've never even smoked pot before, heck, I've never smoked a cigarrette...I think my body would just see it as poison. Otherwise it could be like a weapon!
I think my friend is either bi-polar or his brain is fried. I doubt he's using now. And no, he is not a romantic interest. NOT EVEN! Plus, he's married and is verbally abusive to his wife.
I have a question about Bi-polar though. For some reason I thought that people who have it are manic for weeks or days, then depressed weeks or days..But I know one who is up and down all day. And so is this guy. Not one mood for weeks. Jekyl and Hyde all the time...Which is it?
