I've been getting two or three of them a day. I just delete them as they look like form letters. Has anyone answered and actually gotten a legitimate response?

The way the Chinese are kicking our economic butts, I may send a few solicitation letters back.

(They're not the only ones that can look for some Sugar...lol)

I'm sure there are more than a few people in China that aren't scammers. I haven't gotten a letter from China in awhile.

I have some nice and real contacts in China.

The fakes or visa hunters will usually give you an external e-mail address to write them in the first message. They may also have pictures that look a little too perfect (eg. fashion catalog type photography). If the girl is much too young (more than about 15 years difference), then that could also be a warning sign.

But even messages by genuine and honest chinese ladies will often read like form letters. Traditionally inclined chinese people follow very elaborate rules about how to establish contact with strangers. For comparison: in their daily life, an invitation or a present can only be accepted after being asked three times (accepting earlier would look too greedy). Similarly, they will only give out information about themselfes very gradually in e-mail. They may back off completely, just because you're asking too many questions too soon, or because you made them to lose face in some other way (and you will end up thinking she's been a fake all along because of that).

I usually also avoid profiles myself, if they show too many signals of a traditional attitude. Even if theoretically familiar with the issue, bridging the cultural gap simply takes too much of my patience. My successful contacts have therefore invariably been people who were much more informed about western habits than the average person there. Those will usually also have a very successful modern career, so you can be sure they're not looking for your money.

whitecrow, good information thanks. Think we all need to beware of emails from overseas, not from those we know but from just out of the blue and be causious on replying to them.

Upon receiving a e-mail, as always, I simply provide my number for them to call and "chat." To date no calls from China, North Korea, Japan or even Bulgaria.

98% of Chinese profiles are set up by paid interpreters (these are fake and very dishonest). The interpreters are paid by there client to find them a Western husband, most do not speak English even though it may say they do in there profile.

The interpreters read and answer the emails that are sent to the (fake profiles…) the client never even reads the emails that you send to her.

The interpreter will tell you everything you want to hear just to get you to obtain a Passport and Visa, fly to China to meet them… This will usually cost you about $2,000 to $3,000. this includes plain tickets that cost about $1,200.00 Depending on how long you’re off work and how long you stay in China.

The Chinese women have nothing invested in you coming to see them. They know that even when you find out they can’t speak English or that their picture was doctored to make them look prettier you may still marry them so that you don’t feel you will leave with “nothing”.

The Chinese women don’t care if you’re fat, bald or handicap and in a wheel chair… (No slam to those in a wheel chair but I had to make this important point) the main goal it to get a green card to live in the US… they know that they can always divorce you later.

These women call naive American men “Western tickets”.

Other women from other countries do the same thing but the biggest percentage comes from China.

They may even give you their client’s phone number so you can call them. But they can only say “I love you” or “I miss you” because this is what the translator told them to say whenever you call them.

Avoid the fake profiles that often will say in there email or profile that they are “traditional” or “honest” Traditional Chinese women do not pay an interpreter to find them a white western husband. Also the emails they send to you will ask in the first email to send them an email to an alternate email address.

Avoid the profiles with “glamour shot pictures”

Emails they send are most always a pre-written “form letter”.

These women are usually well educated, smart and very ambitious and want to get out of China and poverty as soon as possible.

These interpreters will never talk to you using an online web cam to view and talk for their potential Asian clients… 98 percent wont do it because you will find out the truth. They will make up an excuse that they don’t have a web cam… Even if you bought them one and sent it to them they would not use it. They would just have a free web cam.

Where a man in America may look for a potential good Chinese wife. 98% of these Chinese woman will only be looking to tell you what you want to hear to come to the US.

This information is not a slam to China women. Like I said about 2% are really looking for love… It is the 98% that you have to look out for… Just be careful and don’t waste money flying to China like I almost did a few months ago.

Great insight, whitecrow and soniceday.

I totally agree about trying to bridge the cultural gap. Dating's hard enough without the added complications of being two continents away and adapting to a totally alien culture.

A lot of this cross-cultural, trans-global dating is just plain common sense, too. If the profile looks/sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Luvvy, lol...

My ex-husband was 6' tall and weighed 160 pounds (until he quit smoking a few years ago) and my father was 6'2 and weighed 165 for most of his Army career...he ballooned up to a little over 170 when he was 75 or so, after he had a heart attack out of the clear blue and had to limit his activities a bit.

hehehe, it's possible for tall guys to weigh very little and still not look cadaverous or even skinny. I know -- personally.

what white and sonice said are true to an extent. From my experience living here in china, most, if not all mature chinese people( not just the women) would get the heck outta china, if they could. yeah some of them women are green card seekers. some are willing to buy marriage( if you know what I mean), most often not true marriage but yanno.. with their own money. Three chinese women have approached me with $20.000 each on diff. occasions just to go to court and sign papers but man, that was like the scariest thing ever. I remember posting this on here, if anybody were interested.

To some, just the fact that you're dating or married to a "laowai"( foreigner), it's a pride.

What's wrong with mail-order brides, anyway?
I'm sure that some would consider having mother-in-law overseas to be a nice bonus.
