would you consider moving to a different school district (if you had kids of course) because of the athletic programs they had? my kids (16 and 13) both love sports-devoted to them and are in it 100% when they are playing. but last night, my son had his last game of football and the team they went up against is GREAT! during half time, they had the 7-8 and 9-10 year olds come out-all dressed in their team uniforms-full pads and all! they played games on the field as the announcer told how the system works. they are taught from an early age and grow up as a team...i bet the 7-8 year old could have beat OUR team! they were soooo good! i now the school also accels in academics...but seeing how they are i had this 'tiny' thought about looking into moving. i told my kids we should move into that district..my daughter said yes...(13) and my son said..'whatever' (16) lol
i don't think i could move out of our school district at this point-being that my son is already in high school...but i was wondering how many parents WOULD do this to better their kids abilities???

No your not bad. Look around and see what all the other schools have to offer. Some have all the arts, academics and sports.

First of all, I can't see how you could leave your beautiful house (and your established business)...but that's another story
I will say that we looked for two years in order to buy a house that we could almost afford in the town we chose in Connecticut...because we were impressed with the school system. And yes, it paid off royally, but we did it before the kids were even in school (one wasn't even born yet)...
Your son's 16 and "established" where he is. There are a lot of other factors (social as well as academic) to consider besides sports. Perhaps helping to initiate a similar program in your local school would be a viable (and rewarding!) option. (It would look GREAT on his college application )

I wouldn't do it for sports though Danger.
I was thinking if they wanted to go to a different school, maybe parents could take turns driving the kids. No, I wouldn't move if I owned my own home like you do.

There are a couple of boys that changed schools because of sports and all the other boys who are staying dont thinkk very well of the boys that left. They look at them as traitors

I know that in Connecticut that if a kid changed schools like that, they made them wait a year before they were allowed on a team.

we have high schools, that recruit kids to play hockey, football, and baseball... lots of people do it, I don't know how, or why it is accepted, but it happens...

My parents switched school districts after my freshman year.My dad was the president of the schoolboard and couldnt get the rest of the board to give the agricultural dept better learning facilities and teachers so we transferred, not for sports but for learning. Of course my pa being a farmer told me that if I wanted to make the varsity wrestling team in the new school which was considered the best in the area I had to do all the hay loading that summer.I did make varsity on a team that sported one State champion that year and a runnerup.

Unless the kids are planning on a professional career, I would put education way ahead of any sports activity. Making a living after you are out of school is more important. How many actually get the chance to be professional sports.
Then again, after all I see of the current sport lineups and their actions and attitude, that would be a major reason to go for the education.

I am from a family that is not athletic, so this is foreign to me, so no. My kids would probably be pudgy geeks like me.
