ok, in our family we get together and everyone is 'assigned' something to bring. this year, i am in charge of making the apple pies. soooo last night i went to the store to get some crisco shortening....NONE there. so i thought i would buy some already made pie shells-take the easy way out....NO PIE SHELLS! so..onto store number 2...same thing! so i buy the stinkin little cans of crisco (which is 10 times higher in price for 1/10 of the amout). the second store had the store brand shortening there...but i've tried it and it sucked! so....either i am gonna have to call around tonight to other stores or just have one pie... another thing...i noticed at BOTH store there were sooooo many things 'short' on shelves and in the 'meat' sections....whats up?? is everyone having a "food rush" where they HAVE to go buy things?????

I take the same thing to every family get together. My family demands it, baked beans, cheese ball, sweet potatos. My sister and I talked about it a while back. I have been the official baked bean maker for over 25 years! Gosh I feel OLD!
Sorry you had trouble finding the fixin's you needed Danger. My sister uses the jiffy mix pie crust. I THINK it just takes water. Not sure, I don't do pies without the already made pie crust.

If worst come to worst you can always do what men do. Go to the store and buy a pie. They might not even know the difference.

Luvs.......I'm the baked bean maker in my family!! I use a "secret family recipe"....it's called "Bushes Baked Beans". , Hey my beans are popular. I also make a mean apple crisp, which I will make tomorrow morning. I am so looking forward to the turkey and stuffing.

MiG, I use Bushes baked beans to make "my" baked beans. I doctor them by adding ground beef, an onion, extra brown sugar and a couple of slices of bacon, but basically, they're canned beans. Everyone loves them.
shhhhhhh!

Danger,
I know what you mean about the slim pickin's. I had to buy a more expensive brand of eggs. They were out of my fat free Hazelnut creamer, so I got the regular, and they only had one box of the cornbread I wanted, so I bought two different mixes and combined them.
I'm using a recipe from Good Day America. It's for a country cornbread stuffing. All of the herbs are fresh, so I think it will be pretty flavorful. It calls for parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme. Sounds like a perfect Christmas stuffing too.
My sis is cooking at her house. It's nice not to be in charge.
