My last 3 paychecks had at least 18 hours overtime and the last one had 2 days holiday pay.. i have 6 weeks vacation time on the books and since i am a state employee it will roll over. LOL i need a vacation.. Sweet N louisiana

Well let's see America is probably the most money hungry country so it wouldn't surprise me no, I work 60 hours a week at my job, and I don't even get a cent extra for all those hours over.

In a way yes it sucks, kind of work I do it would just be nice to get a hour pay on top of it  .

when i was off thankgiving it was my first one off in 6 years..tommorrow will be day 8 working but i am off saturdayand sunday no plans but i will make my self relax and do something.. might go out friday night after work.. and go see a movie saturday since i am not dating anyone at the time.. sweet N louisiana

That all depends on the job Blondino.Work times in agriculture are always well more than 40 hours per week.Typically its twice that time.I worked 30 years in agriculture without any weekends off and I took a week off once a year.My second job averaged 60-70 hours per week installing bank equipment,but like truckers many of those hours were over the road,not really considered work in my opinion.

As for me I don't choose to work as much as I do, but I know I have bills to pay and that I have responsibilities so thats why I do have to work. Its sad that alot of people do have to work there butt off just to make enough to pay the bills! But I hope all my hard work will pay off someday! As for my jobs, I don't get any paid vacations.

Let's see now. I'll be 63 in a few days, I've been with the same company (although acquired by others along the way) for over 36 years. I get the max of 4 weeks vacation, 5 floating holidays, and pretty much the standard others - I've lost count, I think we have 6 permanent holidays. I'm normally in the office by 6, out by 4, but occasionally stay later.I frequently skip lunch and put in extra hours at home. I'm salaried, so there's no overtime for this (but we do get some very nice incentive and merit bonuses, and no way could I complain of being underpaid). Yep, I'm nuts. If it were just the actual productive work that I'm doing, I'd still be loving it, but the bureaucracy is getting really old.
And yes, I deal with overseas offices all the time, the ones who get the 7 and 8 week holidays...
That said though, dancing and working out at the gym are priorities - I rarely skip them!

Your average UK worker will generally do a 40 hr week, that is, your standard 9 til 5 (there are many exceptions, jnr Doctors for instance may do twice that).
Overtime would normally be paid @ time and a half, and should this overtime be either on a Sunday or Bank Holiday, then double time is the norm. Nowadays, however many people feel pressured and are expected to put in extra hours (without pay) as a matter of course.
I remember reading Sci-Fi books when I was a child and the future was going to be one of ever increasing leisure time, I guess our bosses never read those same books....
