Things have gotten a tad tense lately...how would you guys feel about some totally frivolous useless information?
Here's one to start it:
Clans of long ago that wanted to get rid of their unwanted people without killing them used to burn their houses down -hence the expression "to get fired."

Did you know that when a fish sleeps only one part of his brain sleeps at a time? If both sides of his brain went to sleep at once he would drown.
Nope, never knew that...wonder if the sides alternate?
The Can opener wasn't invented until 48 years after the can.

Great idea for a thread...
The microwave was invented after a researcher walked by a radar tube and a chocolate bar melted in his pocket.
Upper and lower case letters are named 'upper' and 'lower', because in the times when all original print had to be set in individual letters, the 'upper case' letters were stored in the case on top, and the smaller, 'lower case' letters on bottom.
The sentence "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog." uses every letter in the English language.

Did you know that the penny is the only u.s. coin that has the president facing away from the rest of the other presidents? That's right. President Lincoln is one the most worthless coins in u.s. currency. He is the only democrat on the u.s. coin and he freed the slaves. He is on a brown coin.
That's more conspiracy theory that useless information though.
