I'm still waiting for some w2's, but pretty close to getting that refund. I put mine in the bank and use as needed-I know, boring huh?

REFUND??
You wouldn't believe the size of the check I have to write just because I'm a few hundred dollars above the "poverty level/not required to file" limit (after writing that check, it brings me down to that level...something's not right )

Refund? I sure as heck hope so! If not it'd be a bad bad day
I'm already ready to file. Just gotta get some other paperwork in place and I'm ready to go.
For those of you thinking of using tax software this year, please remember that if you're going to file electronically, there's usually also a small fee required to do so. (So you end up paying for the software and then the fee to file, much fun!)
If you have 401K's, you might want to consider checking with your investment company to see if they offer a free way of electronically filing (I know some companies have in the past), or perhaps even your credit union might (check online).
For everyone else, you'll find your forms at the library or post office (or basically any other local gov't body building such as your county office buildings).
With that said, good luck to us all! lol!

For everyone else, you'll find your forms at the library or post office (or basically any other local gov't body building such as your county office buildings). Sorry Enc. The Post Office here doesn't have them anymore. I had to go to the local IRS building to get some for my son.
I had mine done, only because of the qualifying widow status I didn't know how it worked and didn't feel like learning. (won't do that again) Cost me nearly $200.00 to have them done! OUT FREAKING RAGGIS! I'm getting back less this year then I ever have since having kids to claim. I gotta find a J O B ! I like having my tax check. To say the least, I am not getting back enough to do all I wanted to do.

Um...may I post a correction...the Post Office does NOT carry forms. To both of you, I guess I can only say, YEMV (Your experience may vary) then, because I picked up all my forms for 2006 at the post office downtown here in South Bend earlier this month. Go fig.
But... Maybe that's only 'main' post offices???
(And thank you for correcting that! I definitely wouldn't want people running down to their post offices thinking they'd be there and not find them. !) Call first I guess??

Well since I am not in the american category of taxes, but still have to do them.....funny thing is when your taxes are due, I get another year older...
I usually get a refund...last years refund was 3500 due to being able to claim alot of things cause of the job that I am in...this year will be a lot less cause of being off due to illness.....but I will get something back....hmmmm what shall I do with it...spend it...why not still gone get taxed on it for spending....maybe a new big screen tv....or a trip....depends on what I get.

I usually get a good sized refund. I know it's bad money management, but I dread the idea of having to pay, and since my refund usually comes in at about the same time as my bonus, I normally use them as my 'splurge' fund for the year.Of course splurges last year included having a new block fence put up, a new carport built...both capital expenditures that are adding to the value of the house, which has already doubled in value in three years. This year I'd like to extend the watering system in front so I can put in some landscaping to replace the cacti I had removed (jumpng cholla live up to their name, I swear those needles have radar). Booooring, but I enjoy it.

I'm perplexed over what system to use to do my taxes... H@R block or turbo tax. My taxes are complicated but I'm told Turbo tax is easy and last year H&R messed up my taxes causing me to pay in more than I should have ( IRS sent me a refund) I'll have to pay in so no major purchases until taxes are done and paid for this gal. If I was getting a refund I would buy a new living room set maybe. I saw one I liked and it's time for a change.

Refund? Certainly not a happening deal here. Last time I saw any type of refund it was 15 years ago and that was when a concert was canceled.

Enc.....If memory serves me correctly you can write the filing fees off on next years taxes (of course you have to have enough deductions). It's much cheaper than having an accounting firm e-file it for you. I also believe you may be able to download tax forms from the IRS website. Whatever you do....don't pay for them.
