I've been there before, but just went back again last April with a friend (one of the perks of moving out here is the fact that when visitors come to town, you have an excuse to do the things you'd otherwise put off)....when (not if) you visit the Canyon, take the helicopter ride (Papillon is the outfit's name), it's definitely worth it. You have a headset with music playing that totally mutes the sound of the engine. Our arrival was musically coordinated with Also Spach Zarathusthra....the theme from 2001. The flight's about 45 minutes, so you get to see more than just the South Rim, and get a much better feel for the enormity and the grandeur of it.

Definetely worth the trip!! The views are breathtaking!!

It's one of the most beautiful places that I've visited..

The most beautiful places that I've been to are:

1) Iguazu Falls - Brazil
2) Rio de Janeiro (most beautiful city)
3) Maledive Islands (most beautiful beaches anywhere)
4) Fernando de Noronha (Brazilian island near the northeast coast of brazil)
5) Grand Canyon
6) Pacific Coast Highway (most beautiful route)

Vette....I agree with you on the Pacific Hwy and the Grand Canyon being on the list of the most beautiful places I've been. I'll add Sedona (the red rocks & Oak Creek Canyon), Tahoe, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Bora Bora, Hawaii, and Washington state...west of the Sound. My favorite hotels are the Amara in Sedona and the Beau Rivage in Biloxi. :)

Forgot Yosemite!! Loved the drive from Tioga pass down to the Mammoth Lakes area
The area around Napa Valley is also very nice!

Napa Valley...most definitely. My favorite spa is in Calistoga. The wine tasting doesn't hurt, either. Tioga Pass is close enough....same thing! lol

You sure know a lot about California? Did you used to live here?

Didn't live in Cali, but went there about 6 times for vacation. My vacations are usually active and I check out as many places as possible. I usually start out at LA, drive Highway 1 up to San Francisco with stops at Morro Bay and Caramel by the Sea. Then I'm driving to Napa Valley to get some wine (my favorite winery is Sattui). Then I usually continue to Sacramento, Tioga Pass, Mammoth Lakes, Death Valley (love the desert), Las Vegas, then down to San Diego and back to LA... That trip covers some of the most beautiful roads and natural sights anywhere!

It's refreshing to hear someone appreciates California who doesn't actually live here.

Well, I think that California is by far the most beautiful state.. However, I wouldn't want to live there.. Don't like the laws and taxes there... None of my toys (cars) would be legal in California... Emission laws etc...

Lol, I love San Fransico. Never a dull moment there. My husband and I are going to make the same trip only from the north Corvette. Going to try to get down to San Clementa to visit an Aunt of mine I haven't seen for a couple of years too.
I just moved here in April, and we went up to Sonoma around a month ago. I loved it. The cheese is wonderful and the wine vineyards are so beautiful.
Hoping for Yosemite this spring or summer. I mean to get into the park, not just visit some good friends there.

I enjoyed the Dinner buffet at the Aladin my last time out. It is a little pricy but it is well worth it! They have these stations set up with foods from different countries. And I do agree with goodcatch57 if George Carlin is in town don't miss his hilarious show!! The weather is always great in December. I went out in August on my last trip and it was 115 degrees during the day and in the low 80s at night. Well have a great trip and enjoy your time in sin city!!

I've never tried the buffet at the Aladin. Might try it this time.. I like the weather in Las Vegas in October, but December is a little chilly for my taste.. Well, I'm spoild with warm weather here in Florida...
