I love the 21st Century conveniences, but I do believe everyone should know how to survive if they find themselves without any of the good graces of technology.... everyone should have a copy of the SAS Survival Guide by John Wiseman. And so also put together their own little survival kit.
You may never have to use it but if you have to, it there. Better be safe than sorry.

Survival skills are very important to me, and it would be nice to hear from like-minded people who are capable of staying alive in the wild. Or the streets of N.Y.C.

Dude, if there's no McDonalds, just go to Burger King. And if I was born 200 years ago, I'd be 253 years old and I think finding a McDonalds would be the least of my problems.

Wilderness Woman Contest
The Talkeetna Bachelor Society cordially invites ALL Single Ladies, 21 years of age and older (and any other interested parties) to the Annual Wilderness Woman Contest.
The Wilderness Woman Contest is for single women 21 years of age and older. It includes at least three timed events, each of which highlights the alleged skills that most people think a semi-wilderness Talkeetna bachelor would find most desirable in a woman. The events may change from year to year. They usually include but are in no way limited to:
• A 100-yard dash to a simulated creek to fill water buckets in full winter gear (bunny boots and wintersuit) and return with them full • Skill at providing a sandwich and beer to a bachelor as he watches Sunday afternoon football on a simulated TV (points are not given for neatness, so the bachelor usually winds up wearing the very much un-simulated sandwich and beer) • Gather firewood and deposit it on a bonfire • Drive a snowmachine around a pre-designed course • Snowshoe skills • Catch a salmon • Shoot ptarmigan • Climb a tree to escape a moose , after which she must dispatch the errant moose (some of the bachelors deserve an Oscar for their dying moose routine)
For more information about the Talkeetna Bachelor Society at Talkeetna Chamber of Commerce, contact "DX" at phone 907-733-3939 or fax 907-733-3940.

Whenever I would be invited to go camping or trail hiking.. I would tell people that my idea of camping was holiday inn... but I went on a canoe excursion, with middle of nowhere tent camping.. and I absolutely loved it!~ Friends that know me are still shocked that I DID it let alone ENJOYED it! lol I think I could do quite well if I had to put my wits to the survival test.

Or the streets of N.Y.C. I don't know to which NYC you've been, but in this one there's one McDonald's every few blocks.
Although I still can't find your connection between McD's, wilderness, survival, NYC and 21st century... As I'm sure you can't either. We didn't expect you to actually know what you're talking about.

Just go to www.talkeetnachamber.org Do I honestly look to you like someone who would willingly make sandwiches and get beer to guys watching the game, let alone compete at that? I think you boarded the bus without the ticket again.
