has horses here too, still show and kids show, it's hard to find someone who can deal with horses, they just don't understand how time consuming they are, not to mention the cost, I think it's worth it however, they are a huge part of my life

I worked as a feed dealer for years. I raised my own horse from a yearling. Used to calf-rope (does that count?). Now I just bet on the horses.

Pete.......you are just an "all around kind of guy".
Arabs here.......Russian and Polish breeding mostly. In to working horses....not just the glamour shots.......Used to show, now in to breeding and pleasure trail riding.
I love my ponies......and have them here with me. I figure I have another good 10 -20 years of enjoyment out of them and me......and then......I am not so sure if I want to buck bales and muck stalls........but the "smell"....it's life blood....and keeps me going and in shape! Who needs a therapist.....I just go out and untangle manes and tails or if I am really pissed......really shovel out the paddocks and stalls........look out! Then I am all calm..there must be something theraputic about the heavy muscle movement or the poop!

I dont have any horses anymore. We used to have Walkers and one old paint. My pa used to raise Belgians and it was enjoyable helping him exhibit them at the state fairs around us and pull wagons in area parades. He had a champion stud that he sold for $15000 to somebody from South America.A year later we saw the same stud sell in Iowa for $750.
Had a game leg.

Appaloosa's here - I have had my mare since she was 2 and she is now 21...still being shown and still has that warped sense of humor only an Appaloosa can have...sigh! LOL! (she goes back to the Skipper W line for you Quarter Horse people :-) ).
Also have a 4 yr old here - never registered her - and even worse never named her!!! She was The Weaning..The Yearling, etc., and now she is The 4 yr old!!! Lets just say she is a large lawn ornamnet! She was bred for dressage...but no one ever told her and she reverted back to the foudation type...another sigh...
I still help with 4H, Pony Club, teaching, etc - but am seriously thinking of getting a gaited horse - TN Walker or a Missiouri Foxtrotter...anyone have any experiences with them? My old knees and back want a break! LOL!

Own a Walkaloosa gelding (cross Appaloosa and Walking horse) I've had him since he was a two year old. He lives with my dad on his farm with his 48 adopted brothers and sisters.
My dad raises Spotted Saddle Horses and owns a stud who resides over his harem by the name of Troubles Two Tone. I'd say he's produced 88% spotted offspring. Yeah, I'm a horse person. lol

I know a few hard core trail riders (endurance and hunters) and the gaited horses are great for the Baby Boomers as they age. They tend to be even tempered and easy on the back and neck.
Me, I still like a hardy little Arab that can out distance the lot on little feed and a heart of gold.......I figure a little bit of attitude takes you a long way....with my friend! And they get me where I need to go and safely........they are family and they take care of their own.
Half-Arabs, Morgans, QH, Paints.....ok in my books too.....I like a western style horse.
