How Many Cases of Restless Leg Syndrome Have Been Created?

How many cases of Restless Leg Syndrome, (RLS) or other brand new ailments have been created by the new production of all the new expensive drugs they want to sell to us for things we probably didn't even know we had?
They have a drug for it now. Might as well go ahead and get the disorder. Right? Heck, maybe we had it all along and since we didn't know what it was, we didn't much care? Who ever heard of RLS before they developed a drug to treat it? And how much does this apply to American Medicine and other human ailments? How much of it is the Power Of Suggestion?
How much of this kind of stuff is actually real, and how much of it is pure revenue-generating BS?

MM- you hit the nail on the head!! what used to be just plain old aches and pains, now have selected names- i think this had been done because we are the baby boomers and we want a name for what we have so we can discuss it with other baby boomers- my grandmother and mother had the same aches and pains- they would just take an aspirin and go on with their lives- i still dont get the allergic reaction to aspirin- after all, when i was growing up, that was all we had- most everyone took it-we have the same aches and pains as the ones before us- but, we need to give them names  just say what it is- either over-eating, smoking too much, lack of exercise, too much fast food, or whatever- what it really boils down to is that we are getting older and with that comes all the aches and pains- i wish my body would hold out forever, but the odds are against it- such is Life  - forgot to mention that because of the named diseases, we need to get the RIGHT meds - and you can bet they are going to charge us out the a## for that- i wouldnt doubt that there is a cure for all things and we will never see it- what would all the doctors and drug companies do then????

I believe in a lot of cases, the medicines cause more problems then what we originally started with  I rarely take anything.. sometimes something for a bad headache if I have exhausted other natural resources.

I think they should stop diagnosis of RLS, and get to the root cause of sleepless nights.
I had a sleep study done, that's what they told me I had, put me on Requip, and now I have nerve damage.
Needless to say, I don't take that crap anymore.

LOL - I believe you've captured the idea... I like my Doctor and I've made a deal with her to work with me to use natural therapy alongside *proven* medicines when needed... It does strike me that so much marketing hype has reached medicine that the field has become filled with snake oil salesmen and fake diseases that, on closer inspection, prove to be the most common of all diseases... malnutrition and poisoning from contaminants, insecticides and hormones in our food...

First, I am the Now that thats out of the way.
I have had restless leg syndrome for years. It usually starts at night when I get relaxed. It is aggravating, but by no means painful. My legs feel like there is something inside them crawling around, then they tighten up and JERK! I didn't even know it had a name until a few years ago. My mom had it too. She said hers went away when she started taking magnesium. I sure don't need another pill.
My sister saved an article out of the newspaper for me one day. Its from one of those Dr.s you can write in asking questions. He said many people had written and told him this, he wasn't saying it worked but couldn't say it didn't. He said if you put a bar of soap under your bottom sheet, you won't have RLS anymore. So, I tried it. Hard to believe, but it worked! He said only non deodorant types like Dove and Caress will work, not Dial or Ivory.
I don't keep mine under the sheet. I just have it laying on my night stand and when it decides to pay me a visit, I put it between my knees and it stops. Beats taking a pill, and I have been doing it for a long time now.

Yep, blood tests showed I needed to take magnesium and potassium. It took falling on my ass after discharge from a hospital stay for them to believe me when I said something wasn't right.The system is screwed up!

Exactly!!! In so many cases.. Just to sell more drugs to society! The amount of drugs sold in this country as I recall, outweighs all other countries combined!
There are much better solutions to many ailments! Many times I think a lot of these current strange ailments are vitamin/mineral balance related. Add to that Requip sounds like it could be dangerous. Where were all these kinds of problems in earlier years?
The system is screwed up!

when I was diagnosed with sleep apnea I was set up with a CPAP machine to aid in breathing at night... Now I can't sleep with out it, I wake up choking, etc...
the positives are many, I actually wake up rested, I no longer have dark circles under my eyes, no more headaches in the morning etc....
yet my primary care doc said something that scared me... he said, "They took away your option of passing peacefully in your sleep...",
I take way too many pills, I take 33 pills in the morning, and 35 at night... mostly for my heart, blood pressure, breathing issues from allergies etc.....
my thought is that natural selection should have removed me from the breed, so its a good thing I never had kids....

My Mother has this RLS, and she sometimes cries to sleep at night, So we found something at Walgreens called ICE Cold and sometimes it works great sometimes it does nothing, in the meantime I try to go online to find different things that will help her with this. We found a pill at Walgreens called Restful leggs for about $5.99, you take it about 4 hours before you go to bed, it worked for her for about a week, then it stopped working. There is a powder on line called All Calm, but its kinda expensive, if the Bar of soap does not work, I am gonna give it a shot, here is the web site for it.
