that we had 20 or thirty years ago still haven't changed -- even in today's world?

I'd be interested to hear your reaction especially from the ladies!

I think it has changed alot.
With discrimination cases being filed all the time, at least employers are a little more careful to NOT hold those double standards anymore.

Ohhh nooo.. It's a woman's world now...

I mean, take a look at Hillary, and Condi, and Pelosi.. They are likely to draw up legislation eliminating the male of the species! (Including Bill!). Only after the world population diminishes substantially, will they realize they can't do it on their own. The species can no longer perpetuate without certain masculine factors at play.

We guys are merely along for the ride now, and to follow instructions, or bust!

The pendulum always over-swings.

Well, I don't know that I'd go that far....and there are just too many of us who enjoy fraternization with the enemy for it ever to get totally out of hand!

Well let's hope so.. But write to your CongressLady so they won't take it that far then.. Whew!!

But what I meant by pendulum overswing is that it always takes us so long to recognize a given problem exists, and then when we finally do, we eventually formulate a solution and run with it, to the point where it usually goes way into overkill, before we decide we need to fix 'the solution'.

Why do you think that?

Thank God we've gotten this far but sure we have farther to go.

It's been proven that women are more likely to get turned down for a job because of THEIR LOOKS. It's been proven that women are more likely to get turned down for a job if they are married.

Men who are strong, loud, and even obnoxious are "just being men". Women who act that way are "bitches".

Men who sleep around and have tons of sex partners are "studs". Women who do so are "whores".

A fat guy can walk around with his shirt off outside and no one gives a crap but if an overweight woman wears a tank top, neighbours will talk and passers by will snicker.

Of course there is discrimination against men and like I said thank God we've gotten as far as we have but don't think that it doesn't exist anymore...

Umm, but hasn't the word/term "men/man", actually become a derogatory term for women? To a point where a woman can just say "Well, you're just a man, what do you know?" And the term ends up having the same impact as if someone called a woman a bitch?

As for the studs/whores reference, I know for a fact that it doesn't happen like that nearly as much as it did long ago. I've seen a fair share of men called sluts and a fair share of women referred to as "you go girl" for being promiscuous.

Also fat guys like myself don't normally go around with our shirts off, no one needs to see my man boobs EVER, lol. Those that do, do certainly get snickers and stares, just like the ladies. People are generally rude about obesity regardless of sex.

I don't think we have as far to go as you might believe there LGQ. But I know there is always room for improvement on both sides.

Now where is some of the fraternization I keep hearing about?

Loks are important for either sex... Ugly people, Fat People, and handicapped people are less likely to be hired, make less money, and are treated poorly based on looks...

its not just sex, people pay more for pretty, its not fair, but its the way the world works....

Frankly, in my workplace, either of them would probably be called 'unemployed'. Of course, they would be sent for counseling first...we're very correct that way.

There are double standards only if you allow them.
I never did and I never will.

If you're good at what you do, and your skill is rare enough and needed enough, you can look like Jabba the Hutt and be hired. Handicapped? Have you ever met a blind programmer? I've worked with a couple...voice recognition software works just fine these days. We have, or have had, a number of people with a variety of disabilities, including one who's no longer with us who'd been almost totally paralyzed since a drunk driver did a number on him when he was 14. He used a pencil in his mouth or clenched in his fist in the one hand he had any use of to hit the keys...and I really have to work at remembering which people are deaf so I'm sure to face them so they can lip read. It's about what they CAN do, not what they can't.

I'm paid about 30% more than most people in my job category, and trust me it ain't for my looks OR my svelte figure.....
