Can't STAND them! It's bad enough doing it while driving (which seems to be every other person these days), but it really annoys me seeing people do it in stores. Like when a cashier/sales associate is trying to greet or service them, and they're completely oblivious to what's going on, or just don't plain give a damn!
I honestly think that most of these folks just like to THINK they look important by talking on their dumb phones at inopportune times.

You shouldn't get so upset. It's bad for the skin.
And I'm sorry to disappoint you but there are times when an important call comes while I'm waiting in line in the precious grocery store. Contrary to the popular belief, the person calling cannot know I'm grocery shopping at that very moment.
Oh and... How does any of that affect you? Does it have any real negative consequences on your well being?

I agree, there are times when important calls need to be made or taken..... but that is no reason for rudeness. If possible, the caller/callee should excuse themself and go to a more private place to talk. I really don't want to listen to someone else's phone conversation, nor do I think they want to listen to mine.
The worst is being in a restaurant trying to enjoy a nice meal with someone nearby blabbing on the phone. And for some reason, people on cell phones always tend to talk louder than normal. Not sure why. I really do think it is rude, in certain places, especially when there are a lot of others around.... and like me... most don't want to hear your conversation.
I do use a cell phone all the time..... I try to be as polite as possible. And I CAN remember the days when cell phones didn't exist! It was a QUIETER time!

Have you already paid attention on the train ? Incredible how many cell phones ring in different minutes to different people !!!! Even if it is not our intention to listen to other conversations we are obliged to hear bla bla bla.....as voices are very loud This is not polite at all

I don't care about listening to people on the phone. Have you ever stepped onto a college campus? Into an elevator on a college campus, for that matter? Even a classroom. Cell phones are inescapable. Everyone talks on the phone, and so do I. I go to school when most of my friends are either in high school classes or working, and my other best friends are in classes with me...so if I have a call it's from my little sisters or my parents.
I'm taking the call.
And if it offends you, kiss my ass, because my biological sister (the one that lives with me all the time) has extreme generalized anxiety and is very nervous about being at home by herself.
And if my parents call me during school, God knows what it could be.

Remember when there were no cell-phones? How did we manage to get those important phone calls? Did we never leave the house? Just to be close to our phones?
I don't understand folks who drive and talk on the phone. If it's an emergency...just how close are you paying attention to the road?
I could care less if you talk at the grocery store, you want everyone to know your business....go ahead....
It's the driving that gets me.

Yeah, that's fine, but since we can get important phone calls anywhere anytime now I believe that argument is invalid...I hear it all the time, and I believe the biggest benefit of the cell phone is that we don't have to wait three hours until we get home to hear that our spouse is in the hospital if we can't be reached at work, or what have you.

Thing is, I conduct business exclusively on the cell, due to the nature of the said business. If I stop taking calls, I may as well close shop.

Life is SO much simpler without a cell phone (or TV)
And the next person who bangs into my heels or tailbone with their shopping cart while jabbering on their phone is going to get that thing shoved down their throat IF it's necessary to take a call, isn't it more polite to go outside or at least into a non-congested part of a store? Call then back when you're in the parking lot, for cryin' out loud.

Cell phones and how they are used these days are downright obnoxious!! And when they are used in driving, they are VERY unsafe too! Which is ALL the damn time, unless the local city administrators have seen fit to outlaw that practice.
Although they do produce a very pleasant crunching sound, when a hammer is used on them! So I guess they're not ALL bad..

It's rude. Period.
There are very, very few reasons to be on the telephone in a social setting. That is the purpose of VOICE MAIL.
Just because so many people have come to think themselves so inflatedly self-important still doesn't mean it's right.

I have to admit, I am one of those who talk on the phone while driving. However, I do not do it when I am in the city, unless I am calling for directions or am running late.
I have an hour commute to work everyday. The first/last 40 minutes are on the freeway. If I can take care of my business during that time and free up my evening for my children, I will. If the weather is bad, I do not use the phone, nor if traffic is heavy.

Well JL, if you drive on the freeway in Phoenix, and you're on your cell phone in the left lane doing 60 when everybody else has to go around you and risk life and limb in the process because we usually do 70-75...your ears will be burning, and not from the cell phone. Somehow I think you'd want to get home badly enough that you wouldn't be doing it though.
I had someone driving behind me when I got on the freeway tonite, and yes, I had no problem pulling away from her - she was on her cell phone going much slower than most of the traffic, cell phone held to her ear by one hand, gesturing with the other, laughing exuberantly (I could see her clearly in my rear view mirror) and apparently driving with her knee. I felt bad for the ones behind her.

Today I had to wait behind a woman on hers, sticking her butt in the aisle while she named off every brand of frozen pizza to somebody.... If people weren't rude about it in public, I couldn't care less. Idiots driving while on them, pulling out in front of others is another thing. Pull over and answer or call back!

You said it Pardner!! Somehow I think we got by rather well before we decided it was imperative to be in touch with everyone we know, 24/7!! I don't need to find out what's on Oprah till I get home. Especially not endangering life and limb in the process. I can't watch it in the car anyway, and I'm not even going to watch it when I got home either. So I Don't Care!!
As for being in constant touch with everyone I know, I rather enjoy being OUT of touch every now and then!
As for grocery lists, I write up my own all the time.. It's really not that complicated.
