I wanted to talk about being alone at night. See I have been living alone for 3 years now. Its difficult to sleep all night; I wake up to any noise and walk throught my apartment checking around. I keep a lamp on in my living room and even though the doors are all locked, I get scared. I was really bad when I first moved and adjusting to living alone. Last year I bought a couple of parakeets just so I'd have something to talk to when I am home. I alergic to cats and won't have a dog since I work all day.
My neighborhood is safe, but there is crime in surrouding of the city. I try to be careful and never open my door until I ask first who it is. If I don't know them, I will say we can't come to the door right now. Just so they won't think I alone.
Just wondered if others get scared too and what helps them to sleep and not be scared (seriously)! Any ideas that could help this Angel sleep and have pleasant dreams? No, I won't get a man for just that reason, (no pun intended..lol)

i sleep with a gun under my pillow because im scared of the tooth fairy!
but serously... living in fear of something isnt good... until you have something to be afraid of, dont. be cautious, sure not but fear...
if that dont help, maybe an alarm and a bottle of booz might do the trick
good luck

Angel-
Sorry to hear you fear being alone. Although I can totally relate. I was with my husband for almost 8 years and now I've been alone since May. When I'm home alone I keep the radio on, otherwise I will think I'm hearing weird noises around the house. I don't really have an suggestions for it though, I just try not to be alone lol sadly that doesn't work always though. Alarm is a good idea. Just wanted to let you know your not alone in thought. Take care

Angel, I have one word for you: shotgun.
Ash, you sure your math is correct here?
Sorry to hear you fear being alone. Although I can totally relate. I was with my husband for almost 8 years and now I've been alone since May.
And you are 20. You've been living with your husband since you were 12? Isn't that illegal?

Beautiful Angel.. ........WE ALL FEAR...the object of our fears are different....we cope in different ways.....try to identify the thing you fear....try to stand up to it.....if you try, in time, you will....and fear will reveal itself as a shadow of a reflection...desolving in the light....
I fear that the mods will delete my appreciations of you, seeing the beauty of your being. ....thank you for being here and being yourself!......

I suggest you get a security system, whether it is just an audible alarm, or a monitored system! In order to deal with negative thoughts, you need to learn how to tell yourself to SHUT UP! I know that sounds strange, but for some reason we have a tendency to let our minds focus on the negative more often than the positive. When it starts it almost has that snowball effect, growing and growing. As soon as you catch yourself letting it happen, try just mentally, or even audibly saying shut up to yourself and forcing yourself to focus on something positive! After a time you will find it doesn't happen so much, and you begin to de-stress about a lot of things! Hope this at least gives you an option of something to try!

An alarm is good. So is a radio in your bedroom, turn down to where you can still go to sleep. That is what I had to do. I didn't live alone for very long, a little under a year. My son moved in with my parents so he could help take care of them and plus they lived in the country and he liked to play his music too loud for an apartment.
I feel for you. This is from a person that is scared of it being too dark too.

Oh, ya, Had a really big German Shepard. All he had to do was stand up when some one came in the drive way. They would wait till I came to the door too. He never growled at any one, bit anyone either.
Although, he didn't like Coyotes much........or other animals.

you may make an experiment.
stop watching news that concentrate on reporting first crimes and other bad things.
most of US media are like that unfortunately. they start from what went wrong today, who killed whom, what kind of bad things are going to happen soon etc.
I did it. I do not watch news at all. sometimes I check news on internet, but be careful they recently do similar things. when now I happen to see news by chance on tv, that strikes me right away - extreme negative feelings load.

Try cleaning the food and other smudges off the screen!.... ...Restrain your hands with ropes tied so that you can't fondle the monitor!!!

Sometimes when you are used to having someone around at night even with a dog and 9mm, it's hard to sleep. I think something about feeling the safety of your husband, know the feeling, I don't sleep the same anymore as when I was married. Course, I had more reason to be tired at bedtime as well
