It seems to me that people take everything at face value these days, and dont understand that when someone says something, they could really mean something else, or could just be joking around all together.
I just wish people wouldnt wear their feelings on their shoulders when they come into the forums, and understand that everyone is different, and we express ourselves in different ways. Dont judge me based on your opinion of what I meant when I typed something, and I will return the same consideration to all of you.

Yep LJ, but without tone/ inflection or knowing what someone is like, it's easy to make a mistake on their intent. There may be some good people who got the heck outta Dodge, but especially new people should get a feel for others.

I buy your point but when it comes to certain issues like affairs of the heart, sarcasm has no room. it's amusing but it hurts real bad

I think what Loreli is saying is what i want to say...
when you're typing something no one can tell if you're trying to be sarcastic so you can't really get upset that no one understands your sarcasm. unless you go out of your way to let everyone know you're being sarcastic, then people just read your words and interpret them how they want to.

Yeah but everything is like that, lj
People will interpret anything how they want to interpret it...art, music, what other people say, political events, things that happen to them, etc...
that's why truth is subjective. it's not that everyone is openly looking for evil it's just that you, or anyone, has typed words into a box and posted them on a forum...you meant them one way, and someone else interpreted them another way. it's natural. it's not like you're at fault or anything.

Yet you are made to feel that way when others gather and begin posting comments about how hateful you are, etc, etc. Simply because you dont have the same personality as them.
This world would REALLY suck if everyone looked and thought the same.
I like your new haircut, by the way.

In many threads, there have been light hearted jabs at people. Nothing too ugly. And those people usually got to know one another a little first. Maybe that's the difference. We can't all play kissy-face all the time, but we shouldn't just attack a person and scare them off. Where will MD be then? I have said some things in here I wish I hadn't, but usually a friend will psssst me in an email and give me the 411. 911? 3 numbers anyway!

Sarcasm ...is very useful to de-dramatize situations Unfortunately not always it's understood....it depends of the humor whom read I agree with Loreli via e mail there isn't any tone and it's easy to misunderstand the meaning of the words

I gots the dry sense of humor. Love to throw out the one liners .Some completely miss my humor (that makes it more enjoyable for me because I laugh AT them) Most are not sure if whatever I said was intentional or not. And I like it that way
lj honey you can't tease those who have low self esteem even if it is not directed at them they THINK it is..aww what the heck tease 'em... I do!

I am not sarcastic in any way
But I do agree with what y'all girls are saying. Because there is no way to see the facial expressions or hear how something is being said, it's hard to know how people will take things sometimes.
And I hate mayo

I come from a large family and sarcasm is alive and well in all of us.. it's in my blood.. but I do try to be gentle with it. Sometimes, it is a very fine line between wit and sarcasm and I do try to take others feelings into consideration. But I am too old to be walking on eggshells and worrying about everything I say in the forums.
I gotta be me

Yep, and LJ will be LJ. In NY, it's the norm and I kind of miss it, so I really enjoy the barbs and understand they're not usually intended to hurt. It's called repartee, and I'm afraid it's a dying art.
Maybe we should put little notes in the subject line - 'Danger - sarcasm ahead'?
