There was a blind girl who hated herself because of her blindness. Not only did she hate herself but she hated everyone else, Except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She said that if she could only see the world, She would marry her boyfriend. One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her, And then she could see everything, Including her boyfriend. Her boyfriend asked her, "Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?" The girl was shocked when she saw that her boyfriend was blind, too, And refused to marry him.
Her boyfriend walked away in tears, And later wrote a letter to her that simply said, "Just take care of my eyes, Dear." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is how the human brain changes when our status changes. Only a few remember what life was like before, And, even fewer remember who to thank for always being there, Even when times were painfully unbearable.

Yes, those are some heavyweight thoughts NeverB4!
I guess he should have shared just one eye, and not the set... Maybe there' s a lesson in life there, to be learned..

Okay, I guess I don't get it (I must be spending too much time talking to Mary). This guy loves a woman who is obviously a totally selfish bitch, for some reason that's totally incomprehensible to me....some come to mind though, but none that I'd consider at all healthy. He loves her enough to give up his eyes for her, and she responds in a way that seems totally consistent with her behavior while she was blind, leaving the world with a sighted selfish bitch, and a blind enabler.
Why is this a good thing?

That made me cry Never.
Sometimes love isn't all what we seem to think it is. And then some of us forget the ones who REALLY stood by us in our pain and suffering. I personally loved the story.
Some of us are just blind and dont' realize what we had, until it's gone!

Why is this a good thing? It's not, Heaven. She wasn't a quality person.. He clearly was.
But he loved her an awful lot, in spite of her shortcomings. I know some folks like both of them.
I still say he should have given her only one eye. Then they'd be equals, and she would have recognized him as such.

Women dont like men who are pushovers ...
MM if I ever go blind just give me one of your eyes
I took it to be that the guy .... just needed to be needed and when she was blind she was needy and he felt good
By giving her the gift .. she was no longer needy and he was ..
The girl did not need to be needed and was off ......... Like a rat up a pipe

Now that makes more sense, although they still wouldn't really be equals. Anyone who has someone like that in their lives and doesn't realize it, and hates the world because she's blind, instead of realizing how much else she's been given is still blind, no matter what the vision tests say.

I think we're missing the point here.
He loved her so much that he was willing to give up one of the most percious things we had...sight..so she could have it. In the end it turned on him.
Do you think if she knew he was intending to donate his eyes, she would have let him?

Isn't this like the story about a hair brush and ........I think it was a watch? I'm with heaven, if the moral is soooooooooo screwed up, and it has to explained, or discussed, it has lost it's meaning.

Yeah, Heaven, me too sort of. It made me gasp. But some people tend to like to suffer and who am I to say that is right or wrong since I have been an enabler in the past... Now I am a uncompassionate, cold, warm, loving, laughing, passionate, crazy person that thinks everyone is ok so long as they stay out of my life. Lol! Unless of course, they are crazy the same way I am.

Hmmm. I dunno Blondino. I don't wanta be a pushover. Ohh, OkOk.. As long as you use it to give me those umm, special looks.
Bandtmom, she probably talked him into it. I suggest he was being largely altruistic. Had she shared his qualities, she probably would have given one back. We may be reading too much into it.
Maybe there's a follow-up chapter, and it all ends well...?

Isn't this like the story about a hair brush and ........I think it was a watch?
One of my favorites, by O.Henry, the Gift of the Magi...it was a set of combs and a watch, I think, but in that case they both loved each other enough to give up their most prized possession, so in the end they still had each other, which they both knew was most important to them.
Now that one warms my heart...the other chills it. If it's an allegory to point out how God is with us in our darkest hours and how little we appreciate that, it would make more sense to me.

MM.....how could she talk him into it when she didn't know until she could see!
It's just a sweet story. I hope we haven't all become so cynical that we have to analyis the love of one of another!
What would we give up for someone we love??
