Lulu!! On American Idol???

Did anyone watch American Idol last night?
I haven't in years, but there wasn't anything else on, so I reluctantly tuned in. I really really don't like that show! Primarily because of Simon Cowell.
Well anywayz my jaw hit the floor with a THUD!! 
I saw one of my favorite olden artists on there, Lulu!! She was always awesome but never, never like this!! She's gotta be about 55 years old or so at least, but she looked absolutely stunning, and ripped out that old song (To Sir with Love) like never before!! I'm sure she must have intimidated the Hell out of all those poor young contestants.
Wow!! It was something to see! I only wish I'd taped it!! 
What an incredible talent that lady is!
Did anyone else see it?

MM I think she may be 60 or so .. she is scottish from a rough area in Glasgow and we aways see her as "girl from poor background made good ...."
Hell so what if she has had a few nips and tucks ..... she does look good

yeah.. WOW I saw Lulu on the PBS fundraiser doing TSWL a few weeks ago and I was blown away as well!!! Not to mention when she did it in 1993 with Soul Asylum. The woman is one of the most underrated singers of her generation.. but then again I suppose every woman singer from that generation is.. but none of them could sing like Lulu.. not even Dusty Springfield who is about as great as you can get and still be on Earth! Heh heh... well hey.. I suppose Lulu is the ANTI-American Idol.. possessing all the qualities that a successful pop singer should have EXCEPT those needed elements of radio support and public attention that such quality talents often lack. But she should write a book on how to hone your instrument and take care of it through a long and storied career. Also.. I hear that her version of David Bowie's "Watch That Man" is killer!

she made quite a few records here with various boy bands and singers .. including Take That being one
being on Top Of The Pops in the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and in the year 2000. Lulu also had a first in the summer of 2000, when she took to the stage at her fist ever festival, and it was back home in Scotland, when she played to new breed of fans at the annual Music Festival, 'T In The Park', and was rated in the press as 'One of the best performances of the festival' and one paper even said 'Lulu showed the young ones how it should be done'. Lulu was a hit, and she herself enjoyed the day.
On a personal level Lulu 's career was to take on a new aspect as she was then awarded the O.B.E., in June 2000, in the Queen's Birthday Honours List, for her contribution to the Entertainment Industry, and a further honour was to come in December 2000, when Lulu was given a Doctorate Of Music by The University Of Westminster.
Lulu is in her fourth decade as a major international star and she has a new album of duets due to be released in May 2002.

You're SO right FBBU! She is way under-rated and a superb talent!!
I was absolutely in Awe watching her performance!! I have some of her old 33RPMs and hadn't heard from her in decades. I love Dusty Springfield too, but not like Lulu!! Dusty by the way, is long-since deceased, unfortunately.
That's great to hear in a way Blondino. But not in another way. I wish her great success. But to the dismay of American Fans, she hasn't had very much exposure here in quite a long time. I'd attend a concert or buy her records anytime. She is indeed one of the very best of all time. But there haven't been any of those things here. At least none I've ever heard of. I thought she retired decades ago.
She may have some nips and tucks, but you couldn't tell that. She couldn't look much better.

Apparently "To Sir With Love" came out in 1967 and she is certainly older than she looks.. Born in 1948. So she's 59 years old. Wow! Is she marrried? heh heh
Some folks just don't age..

I watched it. Lulu is beautiful and can still belt out the songs. I thought Peter Noone (sp?) looked and sounded great, too.

I agree.. She is just outstanding... But even she outdid herself this last week.
I would have sworn she had long since retired, but I'm very pleased she hasn't. I just hate I haven't heard anything of her in about 30 years. Maybe she'll be back on there occasionally or something. If so, she could even get me to start overlooking Simon Cowell's antics and actually watch it.
I can't really see why that longer-haired contestant (can't think of his name now) has made it this far though. Sanjay or something? He can hardly sing a lick IMO.  Is it just me, or is that a common perception? I thought they usually weeded that sort out very early on.

How is Sanjaya still there .... well obviously because the young girls adore his cute looks but he cannot sing . Lulu was awesome .... but where did they did Peter Noone from ??? never heard of him for about 30 years ... I thought his song was poor & was embarassed as it was British week

So? Taylor Hicks is lounge singing hack and he won it last year. Why should this year be different?

In any case he can't sing a lick!! Poor kid shouldn't leave his day job..
I don't watch that show.. But if Lulu is going to be on it, then I'm gonna start.. I didn't know she'd be back on..

she was not back on MM in UK Idol is televised on a Friday
