We've got an outside cat, we feed her outside and so naturally there are other cats that hang around. A lot of them have gone elsewhere but one stuck around (we never fed him, though). My best friend and I named him Humberto, he's a tiny little black cat who was always very, very skittish.
Today I woke up to find him hanging around refusing to leave my cat alone, and when I'd approach him, he'd growl. He's shaking a bit, and limping on one leg. He's kind of meowing a lot, more than usual...and he's suddenly not skittish, as opposed to a few weeks ago.
Is this a sign of rabies, and what should we do about it? (My cat has her shots)

Sounds like he's hurt. Since you have never been a threat to him, he's sticking close by. If you can, cage him and take him to a vet. I have had many outside cats. I usually catch them, get their shots and have them neutered, then let them loose again. They always have food here and if they are hurting, they sometimes will let me take care of them. The shivering could be a sign of shock. He may have been in a fight with another cat or some other animal. If you don't want the expense of taking care of him, then call animal control. But they will probably just put him down. They don't take the time to care for injured animals.

the main reason I said call ANimal control is they have the ability to catch the cat and see if it has any ID on it... I would hate for LIP to get hurt ... maybe a humane shelter or rescue?? and if its limpin it might have been hit by a car or something and CANNOT run so its making a STAND instead .. from experience cats get damn mean when backed in to a corner k?

like others said, the cat's either sick or hurt. The vets would do better than you could.

Not necessarily rabies, but the little guy is definitely hurting.
He needs medical attention. The sooner the better.
I don't know how much rabies is in your area, but it's less common to find it in cats since they are generally quick to avoid predators. Not that precautions against being bitten should not be taken - even sans rabies, cat bites are nasty. But my first guess, based on your description, is that he's been dinged by a car.
Toss a blanket over him, scoop him into a carrier or box, and get him to a vet. If he's not ill, only injured, I'd then get him vaccinated and neutered and find him a home.

I don't even like cats, and I feel sorry for LIMP (I am guessing that is his new name). We have one place around here that will take in stray cats and give them medical attention, then keep and care for them until they are adopted, and never put one down, but those are fairly rare.
I would take the advice of throwing a blanket over him to catch and take him to a vet. That is what I had to do one time to protect myself while trying to save a neighbor's cat that had gotten its leg caught and was hanging upside down with it all twisted up and bleeding.

Hangings went out of favor quite some time ago, so no, I don't think they'll hang anyone for the bill.
They might ask for payment of it, however.
Some vets will treat a case like this for free or minimal costs (their out-of-pocket expenses only); doesn't hurt to check around and find out which ones are kindly that way.
But in the end money versus a life is rather a no-brainer decision for some of us.

Give your local vet a call and see if there isn't a feline rescue group in your area. Most of them have the funding that will pick up the costs for medical treatment in a case like this and place the cat. I'd even check out the local SPCA and quite a few of them are open on Saturdays.
Another option is to check online with any of the pedigree associations like CFA, TICA, etc. Locate a local club and you should be able to find the number of one of the officers since many know the household pet people that show. The household pet people are terrific and could point you in the right direction quickly.
Just be warned that Animal Control will more than likely put the cat down immediately as they do not furnish any sort of medical care unless the cat is obviously VERY adoptable.
Good luck with poor little fella!
