Since the Loch Ness monster story has been around for more than 1500 years, if there is a monster it is not likely that it is the same monster seen by St. Columba. Or, are we to believe that not only is Nessie very big, she is very old as well, Head of the Loch Ness Project, once said the monster could be a Baltic sturgeon, a primitive fish with a snout and spines which can grow up to nine feet long and weigh in at around 450 pounds. This may sound like just another fish story to some, but there is scientific evidence that Nessie is, at best, a big fish in a big lake, or a big wake in a big lake.
Dr Shine, who has been studying the Loch Ness story for some twenty-five years, now thinks that what people see when they think they see the "monster" is actually an underwater wave. A similar view has been presented by Luigi Piccardi, an Italian geologist "who is convinced that seismic rumblings far below the famous Scottish lake cause the roiling waves, deep groans and explosive blasts that have for centuries led people to believe that a giant beast lurks below the loch's murky surface

Do you believe in Nessie ?

whether nessie exists or not is not the question, nessie and other myths like her keep alive the mystery of our world, it makes the world a more interesting place. without these mythological beasts, the world would be a much less interesting place. if we believe her to be a sea serpent, plesiosaur, it is essentially the dragons of the modern era. They embody the mystery of life and our world. Do we really want to find out if she real or not? I for one would not like to know, let my imagination run wild with her existence, it better to believe she exist than to know that she really a hollow log floating on the water.

Oh Nessie is out there alright!! Very little doubt about that. I've seen pictures and videos. She's got a very long neck!! And she's HUGE!! But pictures don't lie..
Just don't go too close to the edge of the lake. She's been known to grab even Toyota Tacoma trucks and drag them in, and then to throw them back out, and they STILL RUN!! Go figure that one!! So she'd probably grab a little Scottish girl in a second!!
GO NESSIE!!

The Truth At Loch Ness Is Often Stranger Than Fiction!!!

New files have been released under the Freedom of Information Act that clearly show that Mrs Thatcher's government believed in the existence of Nessie the Loch Ness Monster and actively investigated methods for protecting her. Once The Morning Glory program on Channel 4 got to hear about it they turned to leading Loch Ness monster expert Mikko Takala for the official view.
Senior civil servants were concerned that attempts to hunt and capture Nessie could result in harm or even death to the unknown creature and so a great deal of government time and money was spent researching options for her protection. Eventually they concluded that she was well covered by the 1981 Wildlife and Countryside Act, which gives protection to all wild creatures whether or not they are known to science.

The Coelacanth was thought to be extinct for 65 million years - now known to be alive and well. It's arrogant to think we know everything that exists. Just sayin'...

the first Gorilla corpse was considered a fraud... thought it was a faked bear...
the ocean has many secrets, Giant Squids were considered imaginary until several had washed up on shore... Attacks by krackens and sea monsters ended when internal combustion, or steam powered ships came on the scene....
Life is a series of questions.... what we see as science, appears as miracles to primitive cultures... so who know what advanced science is?

Of course I believe in Nessie, like I believe in Champ, Bigfoot, el Chupacabra, the Jersey Devil, and my favourite, the Thunderbird.
I think sometimes people rely a bit too much on "i need to see it in order for it to exist". I'm not like that. Call me "stupid" or "naive" if you want...but I love the mystery surrounding these beasts and I love to believe in them, to hope that they're real, at least.

Thunderbird

and

Actually, with the existence of giant flying birds such as the Giant Condor in south america, in prehistoric times, a huge bird could have existed, big enough that primitive man in the Americas may have kept its memory alive.
It may however be nothing like how the legends paint a picture of it.
But who knows....
