I think 9 out of 10 Californians are transplants from somewhere else. We're the melting pot's melting pot.

Hush, woman!! Those Cali people (mostly transplants) that you're glad to see go wind up here in NEVADA! It's true, they're choking (and wrecking) this state with their new rules.
(And have made it so that I no longer eat out at restaurants -- EVER...and have raised our homeowners and car insurance rates to comply with California standards. )

Okay ladies, I am just the opposite. I would rather get that 3 minute warning about a tornado, than no warning at all about an earthquake! I LOVE the snow.. and I feel I just don't get enough of it, dangit! I would rather live here or maybe a little farther up north, than in California. Hell, the only reason to go to California is my beautiful friends there.

Where DID all those people who moved to California come from anyway? TWO from Michigan ~grin~ (and I'm not counting the South of the Border move-inners, just the stateside Americans)
Hmmm, my California ancestors came from Germany and France (more than 50 years before the San Francisco earthquake)...and another set from Iowa, sometime after the turn of the century. My parents abandoned ship when they found out it wasn't "their" California anymore -- but they didn't practice or encourage anything but the "old pioneer spirit" with their friends and neighbors when they moved here 40 years ago.

Two things that I don't like about California,
1. Too many Californians are moving to Nevada and trying to turn it into California, part 2.
2. San Francisco, when you go there, people try to make you think there is something wrong with you if you aren't gay.

Actually, Touch, that would be California Part 3- Part 2 was western Washington, where I grew up...I remember the bumper stickers: "Stop Californication!"

Wow! When I posted this, my intent was not to bash Californians. I was just trying to point out that, in general, we just don't like others moving in and trying to force us into changing the way we live, just to accommodate them. Most of the time, when this subject comes up, it is all blamed on racism or religious intolerance, and that just isn't usually the case.

I'm Californian born and bred. I really wish people would stop judging this state based on a tiny little 10% of the total. Southern Ca and the Bay Area are not typical of the state. The rest of us work hard. Play hard. Love each other. Try to make our little world healthy and productive. Believe me. I would not live in S. Ca. to save my soul. The San Francisco area is not my cup of tea at all. I have the mountains outside my door and the ocean only an hour and a half away. I live on the shore of a great lake where the beaches don't close down for pollution. I'm just trying to get the point across that we are not what the rest of the country seems to think.
