ok I've had more than enough. I can't take it anymore LOL. I'm so sick and tired of people telling me that I don't sound black. The fact that I'm black doesn't mean I have to behave, act or talk like other blacks. it's cheap and frankly poor to think this way. Despite the fact that most of the time, I get it as a compliment, I don't condone this behavior. it's wrong
wherever I go, I get this. why?

LOL I once had a message left on an answering machine, and didn't know the caller. My roommate announced he was black because of the way his voice sounded. Turned out she was right, but I had no clue as to how she could tell. When I was overseas, this born and bred American was told "you don't talk like no American". Of course I asked them just what they thought an American sounded like. No answer. Used to be the word "ask" pronounced "aks" was a tip off (and grinds my nerves EVERY time I hear it) but now every uneducated punk on the streets says it. I do understand frustration with racial stereotypes. Still mad at Steven King for thinner. We gypsies sure didn't need that load of crap adding to the stupidity. To this day, most people have no idea what a gypsy even is.

It does help to try to maintain your sense of humor. I got a big laugh out of the way I was reacted to in Brownsville, and for that matter Barbados. In the Caribbean they actually believe in that bogus voodoo crap, and tried to threaten me with black magic RFLMFAO That was a hoot! Just to be as ridiculous, I responded with laughing in their faces saying, "Bring it on witch! We gypsies have our white magic and can beat your lame black magic any day!" This moron about turned white and looked like she was going to faint, and treaded lightly around me after that. Yeah, you can use people's stupidity against them, for your own entertainment. Here in the states I always laugh at those from Mexico that find their way up here, and have their foolish ideas about us. Was told in Brownsville that all Mexicans consider all gypsies to be "bad blood", after asking why a certain shop keeper up and disappeared on me LOL Yeah, I play with the miniscule minds of those that actually buy into this.

I also think it has part in how they were brought up. Moving to the south 2 years ago and lived up North my entire life up until now. The blacks have been the most welcoming me to the south, more so then living up north.
They see things differently down here then up north where I was from. But then again there are bad and good in all colors wills!! But I understand what you are saying!
Old saying we all bleed, feel pain, feel happiness, love and our heart beats the same as the next person.

no, as I was born in New Jersey. That doesn't make you an Arab. It makes you a damnyankee.
Dunno 'bout you but I'm proud to be Persian and a Reb.

I 've moved around a lot over the last ten years but am back in Jersey now (no not JOY-zee lol talk about your stereotypes noone iknow talks like that). I've heard a lot of talk about 'the whitest black guy i know' and all this type of stuff but who cares. There is a lot of ignorance and hatred coming from BOTH sides of black and white. What it comes down to is that real people out there appreciate and recognize other real people, and will try to see who u are as an individual and not a stereotype, not as a black guy trying to be white or even vice versa. I imagine it must be frustrating for you but just keep in mind that the people who judge a person over how he talks or dresses are being shallow.

there was a thread down this page on stereotyping ... shame noone posted in there... I will copy my post in it
Stereotyping & labelling It is based on prejudice rather than fact, but by repetition and with time, stereotypes become fixed in people's minds, resistant to change and ignoring factual evidence to the contrary. Often stereotyping does not take into consideration that people & countries change & remain constant. Some sociologists believe that stereotyping reflects a power structure in which one group in society uses labelling to keep another group ‘in its place’. Scottish People are all mean , red headed people who live on haggis & wear kilts Well we wear designer clothes .. eat international cuisine and are multi racial now ... as well as often well travelled & well educated and some of us are Muslims .. Sikhs ... Hindus and Jews A stereotype is an incorrect perception of a people based on minimal experiential evidence. Stereotyping is therefore rightly seen as a negative way of seeing people. This is even true of positive stereotypes. Again, a positive stereotype is where we use a blanket expression for a whole people, i.e. all the Chinese are great at maths, all Germans are well organised or all English people are well mannered. Although the intent behind the statement is positive, it still does not reflect the truth. Down with labels .... up with individuality
