Is Miss Mattie. She is almost 18 years old now and she lives with my sis and her husband in Iowa now. Laz's hubby just adores Mattie and she adores him. Mattie has had a very bad week.. she has had problems walking .. they took her to the vet and found that she has 3 tumors on her hip. She has been in alot of pain. They took her to the vets with the intentions of having her put down.. but the vet asked that they wait .. he gave her a pain shot.. and after her second visit, he sent the shots home so they could give them to her. She has been doing better.. Laz said she was able to walk the length of the house yesterday. Laz's hubby sleeps on the floor beside Mattie so that if she wakes, he can take her out. He loves her so so much. I know to some, she is just an old mutt dog, but to my family, she is priceless.. and has gotten us through alot of heartache in the past years.
Please keep her in your thoughts my friends..

I have a 16 yr old dog that has had his pelvis broken in two places, about 5 yrs ago, he is very arthritic but gets along just fine, I see him running all the time, I know his days are numbered, but seeing the "smile' on his face gives me hope, I know he is happy, and I hope he stays out of pain, love can heal . so he gets plenty

thank you friends.. Miss Mattie thanks you too.

She is one special lady. She was a rescue also. One of my nurse friends asked us to adopt her many years ago. She was just a pup and was living ( if that's what ya wanna call it) tied to a tree with a chain that was so big she could barely drag it round. She was kicked and beaten on a daily basis by her "master" and was almost to the point where her spirit was broken. So Laz, my friend from the hospital and I planned a midnight rescue operation... we drove past the house and parked and we snuck up there and snatched Miss Mattie.. I think she knew from the start that it was a secret mission. She never made a sound the entire time we were running back to the car.. no barking or yipping at all. We laid her down in the floorboard of the car and that's where she stayed until we got home. And since that day, she knew that she owned us. In the many years that she has been with us, she has raised one litter of pups and numerous litters of Kittens. (yes, Kittens).. She loved her roll as surrogate mother and was very protective of "her babies". She took her job seriously. I have a few photos of her in the boxes with her "babies".. all snuggled up to her trying to get a drink. Strangers were not allowed to get near her babies . If they got too close you were sure to get a glimpse of Mama Matties teeth. She is just as protective of her human family. She has had her share of pain... her companion Jesse was put down a couple of years ago. Jesse belonged to my sister Cheryl. When Cheryl died, We adopted her. They were a great pair and Mattie mourned her passing for quite a while.
She is a hard headed stubborn old Lady now.. but she has deserved that rite. She is spoiled rotten by Laz.. but especially by Lazs' husband. I know that Laz and her hubby will do everything to make Miss Mattie's final days here as comfortable as humanly possible. And we know that she will let her momma and daddy know when she is ready to say good-bye. She is not ready for that final journey just yet.

My thoughts are with you!!
My dog Sheba is 11, also a rescue dog. We welcomed her into the family 10 years ago. She was a skinny mess when we got her! She has become quite fat. The kids sneak her snacks all the time! She is well loved!
We all have your family in our prayers!

Just to let everybody know how much I appreciate your concern. Mattie is like my second child. When we took her to the vet the first morning that she could not walk, I tried so hard to hold it together.. and I did good until Donald started crying, then I just lost it. All week we have slept on the floor with her, carried her outside to potty, giving her the pain shots , heck, Donald even took 3 of his precious vacation days to stay with her. While she has improved, the vet did say considering her age we have to be prepared for anything. My other dog Lazareth stays by her side and constantly licks Mattie's hip (he has always been protective of Mattie as well) .
Maybe when Mattie is able to do her "hoppy dance" when I say the magic words "nummy nums" will this pain in my chest ease up.
Once again, Thank You everyone, your kind words are greatly appreciated.
K

thank you DW.. I sit here with tears rolling down my face knowing that when the time comes, I will not be there to hug her good-bye. When sis and I were living together, Miss Mattie was my bed partner.. Sis used to tell me she didn't know who snored louder, me or Mattie..lol.. Sis and I have been blessed to have found her and she has been the most pampered member of our family for many years. She has had a good life.. but letting her go will be hard to do. I am glad that Sis and Donald have each other to lean on..
Thank you Kay.. and Donald for taking such good care of Mattie.. Nobody could have done a better job of it than the two of you..

NOW ! If anyone would love to give a good, warm comfortable home to any of the 5 stray cats that were dumped on us last august, we have up for adoption :
Wolf-male long hair siamese mix (not the brightest bulb in the box)
Bugger-female, will beat you to the bed once the TV and lamp is turned off
Lucy-short hair simaese mix (crossed eyed as a bat )
Little One- female, crawls under the blankets from the foot of the bed and bites
all have been fixed
and last but not least we have their mother SARGE, biatch from the word go if you dont stoop down to pet her....

JUST KIDDING FOLKS...
Then we have Templeton the 3 legged boss of the house
Miss Audie, the quiet one
Peaches- Sarges arch enemy
AND Ma, she weights all of 23 pounds

The vet just loves to see me coming as I have now officially put his oldest through college

she's spent more on vet bills in the last year than she has on her own medical bills. Told ya she took good care of her critters...
