I think you should be able to lie about some things. Example.. you don't want to tell someone that their child is hideous...

you don't want to tell someone that their child is hideous... "Dayyyumm dat's an ugly baby!!!" Yes that is not nice to say. If you are protecting someone's feelings, and don't want to hurt them, then it's okay to lie.

IMHO opinion it is never okay to lie but in the example of the baby reference above avoidance could be used rather than a lie or maybe just and a general comment.

Isn't telling a lie a form of hiding?

Why lie if you can't tell the truth then don't say anything at all, Lying should not even be an option. Even if you lie it will catch up to you sometime, somewhere down you lifes path and the outcome could be worse than if you would have been truthful from the start. "For every action there is a reaction." And if you have to lie about things then I feel you are a fake and a phoney. Think about it the thruth is much better than a lie and you will feel better about yourself if you tell the truth.

Everybody lies. Admit it ...you do as well. There is probably not a single person who has ever lived who has not once in his life told a falsehood or misrepresented the truth...regardless of whether it was unintentional or if they told it so that someone else's feelings would not be hurt ...

The point of lying is to cause a sin. It is wrong to lie.
However, for those of a "ignorant" high moral ground.
For others it is a case of "refrain" from lying otherwise you will gain bad merit.
However, it does not mean it is wrong to lie. In some cases it is right to lie and merit is good.
To lie to protect a life is far more valuable then to lie to see a life extinguished.

No, Not Everyone does!! I don't, I see no point in it. It's going to come back around in the future to bite you in the ass at some point. So, I just don't do it!

Everybody lies I never lie.
But what if I'm lieing?
Seriously though, sometimes you have to lie. If someone asks you if you think their ass is fat, what are you gonna do, say "How about them Dodgers?" or something, or are you gonna say, "no dear, your ass is perfect!"

Lies are bad, nothing good can ever come of it.
Don't you remember as a kid, when you told a fib, your parents would always ALWAYS find out and scold you?
While some folks think a white lie to protect the other person might be a nobel or good thing to do, in the end, they will find out....and then you look like a big fat liar.
Telling it like it is might not always be pleasant, but at least your friends know and learn to trust you. Trust you to tell them exactly how it is. Trust you to tell the truth, trust you to be straight up with them. They will seek you out if they need an honest answer.
Telling a parent that their child is cute, when you find it to be ugly...is a lie, there is a thing called tact....you can tell them that all parents think their child is cute......or just not mention "how cute their baby is" just omit the information, no parent would ask you....is my child cute?
Just sayin.....then again.....I once told a lie.....said I was 21 when I was 19...just to get a beer...

Since cuteness is a matter of opinion rather than fact, yes, this sort of thing is usually easy to get around. After all, a baby's cuteness goes beyond what it looks like; a baby is adorable by virtue of being a baby. Just say it's adorable and omit "despite the head shaped like a football."

one time in 4th grade i told everyone in my class that christie whitman was my mom.
other than that, all the lies i've ever told were pretty stupid. (though that lie is pretty stupid too, but that is the only one worth telling anyone about)
back on topic....yeah, there are times when it's worth it to lie.
i have to, i have two friends who are completely and totally psycho who refuse to admit that they cause any of the problems they have...and not only is it not my job to tell them that, but i fear for my life if i tell them that, so i tell them "oh hun, it's not your fault...that guy's an ass"

"Your baby looks just like you"
"Does you backside look what? bring it over here, you know how I feel about it..."
there are tactful sidesteps to anything... the sad thing is lying is too prevalent in society
