I'm a guy and don't know much about such things. So, give me a little help on this one.
I was talking to a lady on another dating site and we were discussing dress sizes.
She said the she was a size 12 petite, 5'2'' and weighed 175 lbs.
I always thought that petite meant small, possibly around 120 lbs.
Is 175 lbs really a petite?

Any person 175 and 5'2" is NOT petite, unless you are referring to height. I am 5'2" and never go over 110lbs, and am a size 3. I think in this case the person is using the word petite to try and kid themselves. They are HUGE. I didn't even weigh that much when I delivered either kid (160lbs tops) Seriously doubt the size 12 part, at that weight probably larger.

Petite has nothing to do with weight; it's about height. She's short (petite) and a size 12. There's a difference between small height (petite) and small around.

Agreed - there are even Petite womens' sizes. It's height, not body type. I also can't believe that she'd be wearing size 12 at that height and weight.

Petite in women's sizing, from what I understand from my mother, has to do with the length of the arms and legs and usually are associated with shorter women. 5'2" is a petite height.

um..
it has nothing to do with weight.
it's where your weight is distributed.
i have huge hips so even at my smallest i was in a size 14.
at my biggest i was a size 19.
right now i am a size 16 and i weigh a lot less than that girl.

5'2'' and weighed 175 lbs. It would be much more safe to say she is plus sized petite...at 5'2 it doesnt take much for someone to be larger....they have much less room to dispurs the weight, than say someone 5'10.

Petite also stands for "short"At 5`2 ,175 # could be a 12 petite.Women are built differently and 175 # may look overweight on some women and others look skinny.

There was a day when those were called child bearing hips and they were in high demand! When women looked like women. Instead of so skinny you wonder from the back if they are a man or a woman.

I am 5'6" and 36 DD ..as long as I feel healthy and happy and in proportion I am ok as long as I have these big round babies I will never have a small dress size ..................................
Ok men anyone prefer small boobs and a smaller dress size mail me 1 to 1 then I wil know that boobies are not your preference

I have been sewing damn near my entire life and KNOW the definitions of petite... it ONLY has to do with the length of the pant leg and the length of the arms so that the lines of the garment will fall in the same manner as on a taller person the pattern is adjusted to fit a shorter person...example.. pants.. bell bottoms.. if you used the same pattern for a person say 5 '10 and for one 5 ft damn near the entire BELL of the pants would be lost when you hemmed them to fit the shorter person.. and in reverse they would be belled capris on the taller person.. so before you jump and call this person HUGE you might want to check your facts since in this case you are sadly mistaken

and so, without viewing the person, one says the person in question is "fluffy" while the other says "well i don't know until i see the person". as for me, i was married to a short fluffy blond who thought she was "big boned" LOL. you are either skinny, normal or fat, no matter how tall you are. we be jammin

you are either skinny, normal or fat that's bull shit.
i'm bigger but i refuse to call myself fat as i am shaped like an hourglass. when i think of "fat" i think of people who are shaped like apples. there is more than "skinny, normal, fat".

It's all in the eye of the beholder...I love this picture. Do you see the old crone or the young Gibson girl when you look at it?
