"Man Whore" or Casanova...Is there really a difference? |

Hi all... I just finished a fairly intense conversation (read; debate) with a small group of men and women on the difference between a Casanova and a "Man Whore". Interestingly, both men and women were all over the map on this one. There was one relatively common concensus, however. And that was the fact that there is an amazing double-standard with regard to a woman's amorous pursuits. For the most part, it appears that women are considered to be "sluts", no matter how classy (for want of a better word) their sexual exploits are. I'm not saying which is right or wrong, but only what the group I was speaking to thought. I'd be interested in hearing your opinions. Thanks!

Actually there is no difference. But the perception of an individual may lead to another conclusion based on that individual's view point.

I think a Casanova knows how to make the ladies swwon to get them to allow him to have his way with them. But a man-whore doesn't worry about even the niceties-get it how he can get it. Not much difference-no.

Either way...they are both out to play the game and get what they want....either monetary or an ego boost.

Much of it is perception in terms of how society views them, male or female.
Traditional society viewed it as an admirable quality among men. Women who played that game were frowned upon. That's the double standard.
However, as I thnk we all know, that has and continues to change as has already been covered.
I'm not going to judge either because what's the point? People will do what they wish and as long as no one gets hurt what is the problem?
It's up to each of us as indiviuals to recognize what's going on and either accept or reject it when presented with the situation.

"Man Whore" or Casanova...Is there really a difference? In my opinion, the only difference is in their technique....like Loreli said. I think a lot of women fall for the charm employed by the Casanova's, until they realize it's all a sham.

It's the difference between a smooth operator and some dude who's seduction technique is "Yo baby, give it up".

And that was the fact that there is an amazing double-standard with regard to a woman's amorous pursuits. Well there ya' go. You actually stated it was a FACT. Pretty much perpetuates the stereotype that men are allowed to be sluts and women are not. BIG double standard, and not really true. Nope, no difference between a man whore and a casanova, both are sluts.

My question is: why does society deem it necessary to put a positive or negative title to one's personal sexual activity?
It's not body else's business.

Casanova generally has more discretion with the woman he encounters or sleeps with . the Casanova is also usually associated with Latin Men with dark features and a good smell- Julio and Enrique Inglesias or Antonio Bandares (sorry for spelling) where as the "Man Whore" will have sex with anything -- Sort of like the 2 1/2 Men portrayal by Charlie Sheen. I do think both are total opposite personalities yet reflections of the same end.

Casanova generally has more discretion with the woman he encounters or sleeps with So does that mean that any guy who is "all over the place", but uses discretion with the women he sleeps with is a Casanova, but not a Man Whore?
the "Man Whore" will have sex with anything But is the Casanova not the same thing, only with nicer smelling cologne, maybe?
One of the women who was in the conversation said that the biggest problem with most men is that God didn't give them enough blood to operate both heads at the same time...

It's not body else's business. I guess the reality is that there isn't much that our society doesn't put labels on these days. The sad part is that all too often, most people feel the need to 'adhere' to or fit into those labels.

My question is: why does society deem it necessary to put a positive or negative title to one's personal sexual activity? It's not body else's business. Actually, this "double standard" made perfect sense back in "dark ages" - i.e. before birth control and DNA test was invented. Women who had promiscuous sex with men they were not married to , were doomed to give birth to fatherless children. Which back than in most cases meant that children will grow up in poverty and most likely their only career choice would be criminal activities . Therefore, it really WAS everybody's business, and those women were considered to be irresponsible mothers . No wonder they were frowned upon... Nowadays , there's hardly any reasonable explanation for "double standard" , it's just "psychological inertia" , I guess...
