What?! I replaced both my central air conditioning AND my furnace last year and didn't pay that much and my house is a two-story, and larger than yours.
That just sounds like way too much for just central air, sweet.

Being comfortable while in your home you worked so hard to get is worth it. I think it may be kinda high too, but living in the south, you will use it much more than i could possibly imagine........I'm sure you will be very happy when it is installed.........And when Sweet is happy.................Everybody's happy

Thanks for explaining, sweet. Even with all that, it still sounds a little high but in the long run, as has already been pointed out, you ARE going to save money.
Look at it this way, I also had to replace my roof and then replaced all the original (70-year old) windows, too. As well as have the kitchen plumbing repaired. All over the course of just over one year!
So it could be worse....

It depends upon your lifestyle.... You will definitely need a/c in the room where you spend most of your time... and in your bedroom.... which in my case is the same area of the house... I have a bedroom / office / bathroom where I spent most of my time... this area MUST be cool.... I can live without an a/c in the kitchen .... you do not have to use oven in summer..... cook in electric skillets... do salads, sandwiches, smoothies.... I am going to try to cut way down on my energy use, for one thing, I'm sick of the bills ....

well the new unit is doing well.. and i think my energy costs will be lots better in the long run.. i am on average monthly billing and i think it will change a little.. for one in the winter when i use my heat there is no pilot light to fool with.. and i also have the warranty that inspects the unit and maintains it 2 times a year.. and my cost for the new system is 90. a month for 5 years.. locked in at 9% interest.. in writting.. thank god.. Sweet N Louisiana ( but i think i might look for a roommate )

I live in a very small duplex.. there is a window unit in the bathroom.. yea, the bathroom.. thats the back room of the apt.. and then my bedroom.. so, my bathroom and bedroom are somewhat cool.. the kitchen and living room are sweat boxes.. the window unit is ancient and I doubt the landlord will replace it..

I know when I first went on disability, the last summer before I sold my house, I took the smallest bedroom of the house, (my office/computer room), put a small window unit in that window, I slept on the daybed in there, and basicly ignored the rest of the house until fall....
