Since ive been working I think ive played hookie twice. I said I was sick. I felt like I was going crazy so I needed a break.

I have learned to never say I am sick, because then I just know I will get the flu or some other crap and will really have to call in....the same goes for saying my child is ill...

well...sometimes..but I only have two!
Actually one time I had my "sitter" call me shortly after getting to work to say that my son had started throwing up...that way i didnt have to call in... I used to have 30 miles one way all country roads to work so when it was kind of snowy out, i called and said that i went in the ditch and was not about to try it again....but of course no damage to my car!

Couple of weeks ago my stepdad had a heart attack ...he was surprised when a get well card arrived from my job ...he was amused and played along ....thanks papa howard

Yes, I do it at least 4 times a year. The best excuse is no excuse at all. I just say I won't be in. 
I felt like I was going crazy so I needed a break. AKA: Mental Health Day

I work for myself, so I can take off when I want............But the catch is, no work, no pay...........Work hard and get payed well..........Work really hard/fast and take sometime for yourself............

Couple of weeks ago my stepdad had a heart attack
a few years ago I said my great grandma had passed away even though she passed away like 10 years prior... and needed 2 days off for an out of town funeral...i got it and i got paid for those days as funeral leave!!!! I would never say that if the person was still alive, to me thats kind of like asking for bad luck.

its only worth it if you can get out away from where you work...so no one catches you. I always feel guilty...

I played hookie one day... called in said the kid was sick. Went shopping all morning with one friend. Then picked another one up and went to lunch. It was a great day.

yeah we cant just call in and say ooo ill be out of the office or I wont be in today...that would not fly...It would be nice to have a no questions asked policy, however in the medical field that doesnt work out.

We have to have either an illness excuse or take a personal day. But several years ago a friend and I called in sick, said we had to go see Dr. Sand (the beach!). We just needed some time off from the little rugrats we work with.
