Yesterday, I volunteered to adopt a soldier .... www.adoptasoldier.org

It's free and they assign a soldier to you.
Thus far, I have an email address and hope to here from the SGT very soon.

It's important for our guys to know that we stand behind them. I'm sure that Iraq a scary place for them.

If any of you would like to adopt a soldier also, keep in touch with me and maybe we can compare notes. We can unite together on this end to support our troops.
This is a way that everyone can participate

God Bless America

This site asks for no money.....At least we can support our troops with words of encouragement......Can you imagine how they feel if they thought that the people that they are fighting and dying for didin't believe that they didn't exist..

What kind of patriotism is that?

I don't believe any one would want to scam us out of chewing gum, Cracker Jacks and shaving cream, etc.

you never think that those in the need for katrina aid would get scammed either. I definitely agree that it is very important to support our troups, without a doubt. I just am not comfortable sending "stuff" or money through an organization I have never heard of i guess. I am not saying that we should just forget about those fighting for our countries. Just like buying those car magnets....how much of the proceeds really get to our men? I have many members of my family who are active in Iraq and they all get monthly care packages....

I have 2 Marines of my own. One nephew at Cherry Point, the other soon to be deployed for the second time...to the Sandpit.
Anything that can be done to support them all is commendable. There are a lot of ligit sites on line too.

Well if you're worried about that being a scam, you can always go to www.letssaythanks.com It's a site sponsored by Xerox that lets you pick a free postcard to be sent to military personnel stationed overseas to thank them for serving. The neat part is that all the postcards were designed by kids. I go to this site every few days and send a card.

We did this through our Local Armory. That way, we knew it was a real person, and donations, letters, etc. could be tracked if we were unsure!

They appreciate it so much, especially games, books, showers-in-a-bag. Cookies and other homemade things.

Princess, I saw it, it was very touching, I never hesitate to forward any thankful military email to everyone on my email list. The soldiers may not get any benefit from this directly, but I refuse to forget those who serve for us, and try my best to remind others....Thanks for the link.

I'm gonna send that site to Glen Beck and have him check it out. Since I've not heard of it, and I keep my ears open for stuff like that, I'm thinking it's some left wing nutjob trying to get email addresses for propeganda.

I'm a left winger politically and I support the troops via the Overseas Coupon Program, sending coupons overseas so that the military families can save money at the base exchange. I have sent virtual cards via the Xerox site. I doubt very much that any true progressive would use such a site for propaganda. That remark was uncalled for about left wing nutjobs using the site for propaganda!!

My Dad was an Army veteran, and I root for Army when the Army/Navy football game comes on.

Also I bring magazines to the veterans' hospital in my area. I have sent care packages to those whom I know personally who are serving overseas. Just because I do not agree with the commander in chief's policy does not mean I don't support the troops in any way I can. The soldiers are making sacrifices to serve our country and deserve our utmost respect, no matter where on the political spectrum one's political beliefs may fall.

To all of those serving our country, and for those who have served, I am grateful to you.

Soldiers Angels .com is a well know organization where you can adopt a soldier. They are well known across the country. They are not scam artists.I am on their wounded soldier team and send cards to wounded soldiers at hospitals all the time. It is free to join, they will do a background check on you before they will give you a soldiers name. If you don't pass their background check they will simply say they have no soldiers to adopt. I also, make hero blankets for the soldiers also. ANother source for current wounded soldiers is Fisher Houses.com these are like ronald mcdonald houses for soldiers. They are in several states. Florida and teaxas have 5 or more houses. Ohio has 2 one in dayton and one in cinncinatti. Before Christmas my nightingales are going to the ohio fisher houses to deliver hero blankets, lap blankets, wheelchair bags, walker bags, stump covers and get well cards as well as christmas cards . cheryl

Yet again we must support on those we lost,
never to look back at what it might cost,
a ranger strikes first in attempt of disrupt,
a fierce battle he brings, swift and abrupt.

On blue skys, the god realm they found,
a pacing heart with a beat so profound,
they are the ones, we call commandos,
for those who fallen are remembered as heroes.

Bringing support, and relatives love,
they hold back, with the sign of the dove,
the regulars a so much needed force,
always considered as the military warhorse.

Pitbulls they are, as Dobermans they guard,
theyr honor defend with upmost regard,
they are the marines, a force so brutal,
feared by the enemy, the heart of an eagle.

should i keep goin? there are other branches in the force.
please, for all of those who pass judgement way to easy, a soldier is a person just like YOU, he so happens to be a bit more trained, hes courage is boosted, hes bravery put to the test on a daily basis. DO NOT disrespect a soldier that comes back from war, he is fighting for a better future, he fights for what others do beleive, a sense of justice, protection of the innocent, protection of your homes.
they are shipped to war without consult, we fight without wanting, even if theyr actions seem so obscure, we fight for a better tomorow.
support your troops like we support our loved ones.
afterall we fight to keep the wolves at bay
i dont say the adopt a soldier site is a good thing, what i ask is a little more understanding for those who fight, for those who will fight, and prayers for those who have fallen cos they deserve them as much as we do.

Semper Fidelis
"Always faithful"

for those we love, for our country, for our family, for our beleifs, for the cause... always faithful to the Marine corp.
