Meat company recalls 129,000 pounds of beef from Michigan, Ohio, 13 other states LINK USDA food safety site
ASSOCIATED PRESS
KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A Michigan meat company is recalling 129,000 pounds of beef products because of possible E. coli contamination, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said.
The meat products are made by Davis Creek Meats and Seafood and were made for Gordon Food Service stores, the USDA announced Wednesday on its Web site.
The beef products were made between March 1 and April 30 and were shipped to distribution centers and retailers in Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
The Michigan health department discovered the problem as part of an E. coli illness investigation, The Detroit News reported.
The items under recall include boxes of mechanically tenderized steaks and ground beef of different weights. The boxes are labeled “Est. 1947A” .
Symptoms of E. coli include stomach cramps that may be severe and diarrhea that may turn bloody within one to three days. E. coli sometimes can lead to complications including kidney failure.

Gorden food service also sells most of their meats to restaurants. Lots of it matter of fact.
Before you eat at one, ask where they get their meat from!

I buy all mine straight from the meat market. Best quality, and best prices. and a touch of love in there to boot.......I get farm fresh produce there ( in season ) as well, and farm fresh brown eggs......They make their own brats, hotdogs, jerky, and beef sticks.... The last thing I bought from GFS was cups/lids for jello shots, which I need to buy more for this summer. Note to self.............self.......................ect...

watch out for deer, they aren't safe anymore.... some sources claim the deer caught it from the feed hunters left out prior to the season in past years, contaminated from "Mad Cow" Deer wasting disease
Brain Disease Rises in Deer, Scaring Hunters By SANDRA BLAKESLEE Published: September 3, 2002
As hunting season approaches, people in Wisconsin and the Rocky Mountain states are increasingly worried about chronic wasting disease, the variant of mad cow disease that afflicts deer and elk.
Scientists are fairly confident that no one in the United States has died from a human version of chronic wasting disease, but hunters are confused and frightened anyway.
In Wisconsin in the past six months, 24 white tail deer have tested positive for the disease, and none of them looked sick. Not certain if venison frozen from last year's hunt is safe to eat, many families are throwing it away.
Surveys show that up to a third of the state's hunters plan to stay out of the woods this year, and many who do hunt will not be bringing their prey home. Economists estimate that the state may lose a third of the more than $1 billion that deer hunting brings to local businesses.
