I just had an awful revelation: I am not qualified to call myself an American.
As anybody who watches television knows, Americans are rich, irresistibly handsome folks who drive expensive muscle cars, own lots of guns, flit from bed to bed while enjoying mind-blowing, kinky sex with supermodels and have exciting jobs in which they disarm bombs, solve strange crimes and/or dominate corporate boardrooms while they bulldoze anybody foolish enough to stand in their way.
I certainly don't fit that description. 
I don't own a mansion or have more money than God.
I don't own any guns.
I don't own a convertible that can go from zero to 200 mph in ten seconds.
I have never slept with a supermodel. I've never even had a threesome! 
My job is dull and boring and I've never disarmed a bomb, solved a crime or engineered a corporate takeover. 
I care about the world and do my best to protect the environment.
Yes, I am truly a disgrace to this wonderful nation!
I expect to be deported any day now.

thats ok though i am not rich unless its in love of my friends
.. i do work very hard and pay my taxes and my bills on time..i dont live in a fancy house but i take care of it and love the fact i bought it with no help.. and i respect the freedom i have.. and i think of it this way.. i do what i can because i am American    Sweet N Louisiana

It's true!!! It's true.....
On my travels the image other nations have of us is puzzling. When I asked how these folks came to the conclusioin that we were this or that....guess what the answer was?
TV...yep....we saw it on TV...

yes didnt you know you all live in mega big apartments or mansions, own at least 3 new cars including at least one porche and you all eat out everyday! you work 2 hours a day with an hour for lunch, thats if you do work!! Daddy usually supplies the creditcard when you get to 10 for the shoppin down rodeo drive and you all have pool parties complete with perfect looking people!!  It says so on TV and does TV ever lie??

Your sarcasam is well received RareQ. You know that is merely a media lie that is beigng fed to us all. Some know better and move past it. Others buy into it and reap a life of misery.
Personally I prefer being identfied as a human being rather than my nationality, gender, sexual preference, economic status, or any other criterial that people love to place on themselves. We are, and should remain, human beings first, everything else is secondary.

'Cause none of the stuff you mentioned ever happens to people from Portland, Salt Lake, Kansas City, Milwaukee, Tulsa, Louisville, Pittsburgh, or Providence.

This is the idea that TV gives.....but all of you teach me that America and Americans are different from movies...and I think yuo are real nice people with the same situations, difficulties, happyness .... we have here
