The Ant and the Grasshopper
*OLD VERSION*: The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.
The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold. MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!
*MODERN VERSION:
The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.
Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.
CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food. America is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?
Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper, and everybody cries when they sing, "It's Not Easy Being Green."
Jesse Jackson stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news stations film the group singing, "We shall overcome." Jesse then has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper's sake.
Nancy Pelosi & John Kerry exclaim in an interview with Larry King that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share.
Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity and Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government.
Hillary gets her old law firm to represent the grasshopper in a defamation suit against the ant, and the case is tried before a panel of federal judges that Bill Clinton appointed from a list of single-parent welfare recipients. The ant loses the case.
The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in, which just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around him because he doesn't maintain it. The ant has disappeared in the snow. The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the once peaceful neighborhood.
MORAL OF THE STORY: Be careful how you vote!

logically it is the capitalists that support the grasshopper. it definitely isn't the communists! LOL the communists would have forced the grasshopper to have earned at least enuff for food and shelter. the paltry 10-20% income tax on the ant is nothing compared to what they made off the grasshopper. the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. LOL

But it makes some feel good to help the little guy. The end results don't matter, as long as they feel like they did it for the right reasons. It reminds me of when they tried to raise money to buy shopping carts for the homeless, ( their efforts, to make the grocery stores donate them, ( after the homeless stole them ) failed. ). Their idea wasn't to make them active participants in todays society. But to reward them for dropping out .

Thanks for the info TwoTall...now I'm gonna go out and catch all the grasshoppers I can find and use them for fish bait. The rotten little bums that they are.

we had a "Yellow" bicycle program in downtown St Paul, free to the public, stop at any bike rack, grab a Yellow bicycle, and when you finished put it at another municipal rack..... 1,000 bicycles disappeared in a couple weeks....
its a harsh world, there are people who need help, but so many vultures who intentionally bleed society, how do we cure it?
in the Arctic, when someone is unable to hunt, fish, or be productive, they are left in front of a glacier.... I have no desire to be glaciered, but I know I'm no longer a productive member of society... and I know I exist on the good nature of the government... somehow there has to be an answer.....

do you even f***ing think that some people might be poor...
because they got screwed over by the government and the government got rid of their jobs?
that's what might happen to my mother.
she's been working for the town municipality for like twenty five years...and if Republicans get elected in the next state election, they're going to get rid of her job and move it to the County.
she'll lose her job. she already lost her second job at another town's municipality because of these and we've been on the rocks since then.
my mother's been holding this family up for years.
i might have to f***ing support my family if this happens....go to school and work full time.
i don't want to hear about how the poor are lazy, or mooching off society, or don't work.
i just don't..want...to hear it.

i just don't..want...to hear it. Then why say it? And not all poor are lazy, that was said too. Unfortunately many are and lack motivation from the inside where it is required to push beyond the bounds of the current situation to attain a new height. I just want you to know that during the recession of 82-84 I was homeless for two years, couldn't find a job, lost all I had, lived in the woods and under bridges, etc. I kept trying to find work and refused to accept any handouts. It was a very very hard time yet an end came eventually and odd jobs here and there barely fed me while all that was going on. My point is that if people perservere then they can move beyond a bad situation if they truly want to. Many just give up and quit trying therefore they remain where they are, trying to take it away from the ants that have had to struggle to get the little they have.

You see I am prejudice, but not because of ethnicity, or location, or anything else.....I am prejudice of laziness.......People come to this country all the time, start with nothing, and drive themselves to succeed. There is ample opportunities out there........and they all involve risk......They start with a dream, and you do what ever you can to make the dream happen.........We are in the greatest country in the history of the world.........And yet some, sit back, and do nothing.........LGQ. I am very sorry for your mothers job. I watched as my father was tossed aside by the future......He never kept up with technology........And was replaced........This should be the lesson of today, if we stop learning, we will be replaced.........But then again your mother has something that many younger/ and more educated youngsters do not have......She has a work history, she knows you must work hard to get what you want, many young people of today. just simply want it they feel they deserve it......but are not willing to do anything to get it........No one is entitled to have their job for the rest of their lives. In the old west, if you stopped, and did nothing, you died. We have gotten so spoiled, we truly believe, if we simply get up, and show up, we are entitled to happiness, and success...................FOREVER, life does not work that way.....It is our own responsibility to work for everything we want, or need. If birds don't fly south for the winter........they die........If a squirrel doesn't store nuts for winter........he dies......many of us have lost our natural instincts, and have become dependent, on one thing or another. Don't let her wait, have her start now, to find the one thing she loves, she always wanted to do........find something you love, put your heart and soul into it, and the money will follow..........After all, what does she have to lose?
