Stay away from milk products. There are some people here that will know more ok? I imagine they are in bed right now.
Make sure she has water too. Poor thing!

whenever i have a cat that is sick or just got it and is super skinny i get purina kitten formula stuff...its loaded with those important things for the kitties, and obviously good for mom. if she is a stray she may be eating enough...but could be full of worms as well...

One thing I have done when I have sick cats or cats that need to gain weight is to feed them baby food. It does get expensive though. I buy the jars of Gerbers 2nd foods, esp the chicken or turkey. But the canned food mixed with some dry food is probably best for her now. You might want to "treat" her to some baby food every few days. When the kittens are weaned or starting to get weaned, mix baby cereal with kitten formula to get them on their way to harder foods.

If you can get kittens away from her for a couple of days, feed kittens a formula available from vet or some large chain store, pet suppliers have powdered formula for "orphaned animals" Momma won't put on any weight till the kittens are off of her. Is it a small litter? They must be at least 4 weeks or more if they're following her. Especially if they have to follow her any distance.
We have a "cat nip" program local that spays/neuters feral then returns them to wild. Only ferals though. Folks trap them in live traps and transport for procedure and pick them up when its done.
Be careful though there really is a illness one can contract from cat scratch.

as long as she is nursing, she will stay skinny.. my moms cat won't put on any weight no matter how much we are feeding her until she weans the babies..
lots of protein.. tuna, salmon, sardines.. and a mash of rice, chicken broth and mixed veggies .

Good point about the protein... Cats are carnivores, and their systems process meat & tuna optimally. We had a very young cat who brought a newborn kitten into our back yard several years ago, and we fed her for a couple of weeks, but it ended badly.
If you can find the kittens and secure them, it might not be a bad thing. Our cat's kitten died (we figure it was killed by a male who wanted to mate with her -- it happens with the big cats in the wild), and what happened next frightened the snot out of my kids.

Good luck Jeans--can't tell you how many times I've helped strays. Gives you a good feeling to know you are helping another of God's creatures that cannot help itself.

Matt found 3 kittens in our garage Wed night. The mama is wild, and she had them in one of the rolled up tents. One of the kitties was wrapped inside of the tent. It's very small. Matt and his sisters couldn't stand for them to be left out there, and them turn wild, so they had me go out and get them. They KNOW I'll take care of them. 1 is Siamese mixed, and the other 2 are tabby with white bellies and feet. Matt is keeping the bigger tabby male, and Carlee is keeping the Siamese, and Cianna is taking the little tabby back to TN with her and my sis. Right now I have 2 adult cats and 4 kittens in my house....Matt just got one from his dad for his birthday on Memorial Day. He's giving that one away. I always use regular baby formula for them. I've nursed baby rabbits and squrriels on baby formula. They don't get the diarehea with it either.
Good luck hon, Jini

Kudos to kind hearted 'kitty' people You said u can't leave food out because of the dogs. Can you elevate the food so the dogs can't reach it? How about pablum... Between probable worms and nursing and stray cat malnutrition.....yup she be skinny. Do u know the exact location of the babies??

As has already been said, Mama Cat simply needs lots of high-quality cat food. Read ingredients lists like a hawk and avoid brands that start their list with water or by-products, a sure indicator of poor quality. If the only "meat" listed is by-products, avoid those, too.
KMR Milk Replacer for Kittens by Peg-Ag is the most appropriate formula substitute for felines. You can certainly let Mama Cat have some if she'll lap it from a dish. Buy the powdered form and you can mix a bit of that into good quality canned food, too.
NOTE: Other formulas sold in grocery and pet stores (Just Born, Heinz, Mothers Helper, etc.) and human infant formula are nutritional garbage for any animal because a "one size fits all" approach doesn't work. There is just too wide a variance in the fat, protein, and carb content of mother's milk from species to species.

Purina makes good pet foods. I have fed mine friskies canned and purina dry for years. I have never had an unhealthy cat from the food. Only if they got some sort of illness have I ever had problems.
