Since my > blog < the other day, I have gotten a ton of email from people that have quit smoking or are trying to quit smoking....so much email that yesterday, for the first time ever, I hit my email limit. One of the people that emailed said we needed a forum thread for quitters, and I thought that sounded like a great idea!

So if you've quit recently, or are wanting to quit, or just want to cheer on those of us who've decided to take control of our addiction, post here! Give us your tips, keep us posted on your progress, ask for support when you're feeling weak. We'll be here for each other

....just watch that pinkie finger, eh?

Thanks tulip...you can't do it until you're truly ready...if you try, you're setting yourself up for failure. You'll know when the time is right

Thanks, EF....
I have been trying to quit. I'm down to 5 cigs a day, but it's those last 5 I will have to "cold turkey" when it hits.
I went to a hypnotist, and i actually quit for 2 weeks. Then a friend asked what would happen if I took another "drag". I said heck if I know, so I took one off hers.
Big mistake.
Once done. Just be done!
for you!

edited because "A Knight's tale" is on too loud...I hate when I type what I hear!

I've said this a few times, but I'll say it again...

Go to the grocery store...pick up a jar of Spice Islands Cinnamon Sticks (they just seem to be the freshest ). When the urge hits you hard, pick one up...hold it like a cigarette...pretend you're flicking the ash...bring it to your mouth if you need to...chew on it...whatever! Just holding it in my hand gets me thru the worst of the craving, and let me tell you, cinnamon breath is so much better than cigarette breath!

my downfall is being around others who smoke...

that and despite all of the medical advice to quit, I have no desire to quit....

TT, didn't know you used hypnosis too - my last one was at noon January 4, 1989 Hypnosis, combined with the Nicorette gum for three months, worked for me. Illlook mentioned that it worked for him too.

Loreli - it doesn't bother me when people smoke around me, but I really believe that one drag would do me in too, even after 18 years.

Good luck everybody...

btw, the mental image that the hypnotist had me concentrate on that I found the most powerful was figuring out how much I spent on tobacco in a year, then picturing myself putting that money in the kitchen sink (at that time about 1500 bucks for me), lighting it up with a match and watching it go up in.....smoke. He said to picture the money catching fire, then curling up and turning black, finally leaving nothing in the sink but ashes. Then thinking about what I could have done with that money instead...

Talk about TIMING......I just quit - June 22 - cold Turkey. It's not as hard as it sounds, and it's relatively easy to get used to........YEAH, RIGHT!

I've been complaining about feeling "HIGH" for the past couple of days, simply because I don't have any of that precious carbon monoxide going into my system, along with the 4,000 other carcinogens in smoke - yet I DO have this huge influx of OXYGEN into my system. And my body and my brain are still trying to figure out exactly what all that is for. The result is that I don't feel like I can speak coherently (okay, that may be nothing new after all!), I am soooo looking forward to getting past the first 3 days. And I've been tempted. And I've had to remind myself not that I've quit forever, but simply that for TODAY I have decided not to have a cigarette. If I look past TODAY....I may have to be committed to a rubber room somewhere!

Everyone handles it differently, but this precious little son of mine now thinks that I have two heads - on my SHOULDERS, people! - but I explained to him that this would probably be a rough weekend, and he's doing everything he can to make sure I don't get upset with him about ANYTHING. Smart kid! Very smart kid!!!!

And this time around, I'm finding it important to tell a lot of people that I quit. When I've tried in the past, I wouldn't tell a soul. That way, if I started, I didn't have anyone pointing those accusing fingers at me and thinking "LOSER....you couldn't do it!" LOL This time, I've told TONS of people - so.....looks like I'd best not fail at this attempt, eh?????

Best of luck to all that are or will be quitting - and to those of you that have already quit, best of luck in maintain a smoke-free life!

Oh, I've got an EXCELLENT e-book that I think would help just about anyone that wants to quit. There are no restrictions on it's distribution, so if you'd like a copy, email me and let me know where to send it!!!!

Best of Luck to Everyone!!

I've quit before ,when I was pregnant. I can't find it in me right now to quit. Do I want too?? Sometimes, for my children, and grandson!! Right now, my nerves are too raw to quit!!
My son, Matthew asks me to quit alot. I keep putting it off. I know I'd save ALOT of money, money we could use, but like I said, my nerves are raw.
It may just be an excuse, but when I think about my other son, and where he is, I light a ciggy, like right now....lighting one
Maybe I DO need some help to quit!!

Jester! We quit the same day...sorta. My last smoke was at 11 pm on the 22nd Congrats to you! Try the cinnamon stick trick...sunflower seeds work too, but are fattening...and there's lots of water gain involved...LOL

I did the same thing...I told everybody I know...at work, here, my family...I cannot go back...I'll get my arse kicked!

You can do it!!!!

That is the key........you have to really want to do it. I am a firm believer that we can do ANYTHING, if we can convince ourselves that we HAVE to do it. I dont think its enough to just "want" to do it even......I think you really need to believe that you have no choice.

If you watch all the "quit smoking" commercials, you will notice one thing that they cleverly work into the message (you can almost miss it by focusing on the product), but it will say........YOU can quit........this product can help.

It doesnt say that any product can make you quit, or is a miracle cure for addiction.......it says YOU can quit.......this will make it easier.

So stay positive and believe in yourself, and reinforce your personal reasons for "having to" quit.
