I know there are a few of us on here who are working very hard to get in shape or drop a few pounds...but we've never really had a place to talk about the journey that it takes to get there.
This can be that place...there's an ex-smoker's support group, after all. We can talk about anything that's going on that you feel relates to your weight loss, is preventing it, etc. Anything goes.

I LOVE your idea LQG. Is this also a place where we have to be accountable for doing what we should be doing, like exercise and eating right? For me, that seems to work better then anything else I have tried.
LETS GO!

Thats a great idea Robo, but I don't think I want to ride my Moped that far, so its going to have to be a virtual gym.

Well, I was trying to get myself in shape...quitting smoking was part of that...but this morning I stepped on the scale and realized I gained back the 3 lbs I had lost...can I blame the quitting thing? Oh damn, this will be hard...losing weight while quitting smoking...isn't that an oxymoron?

losing weight while quitting smoking...isn't that an oxymoron? Pretty close to it!!!
I lost about 50 pounds a few years ago and have been busily putting them back, for a variety of reasons, but absolutely A number one reason is lack of exercise. My doctor says I do enough (dancing and weight training) but I know that when I was losing weight I was walking 3 miles every other day during the week and about 10 miles on one weekend day...in addition to the same dancing and weight training I'm doing now. Tennis and racquetball are great, but bear in mind what you're doing to your knees...you're better off doing low-impact stuff like walking if you need to lose significant poundage, once you've gotten partway there you can start doing all kinds of neat things!

The only exercise I get is work...I'm a cocktail server.
It used to be that I had the whole bar to myself on Sun, Mon, and Tues. On Thursday there was one other cocktailer and Friday we had 3-4 in the bar. Business was brisk, and it kept me on my toes, running my butt off for 2-3 hours, 5 nights a week.
Business has slowed, while at the same time they ADDED servers to the bar area. I had a shift cut due to business, so now I'm working only 4 nights a week. There is no cocktail server in the bar anymore on Sundays, so I'm in the restaurant now on Sundays, and I'm off on Mondays...Wednesdays now has two cocktail servers so I don't work as hard (less exercise, less money )...*sigh*...and thus my weight gain.
I'll be taking walks with the kids more, once my lungs heal a bit, but I never was one for exercise...I just hate it. Walking is about as good as it will get...lol...maybe I need a job at a busier restaurant?

Shopping helped me lose weight. It's a lot of aerobic exercise- all that walking and trying on clothes. It doesn't feel like exercise, because it's something I love to do. I wasn't even trying to lose weight.
I think that's the key to the exercise part of losing weight- find something you enjoy doing that includes physical activity.

It's all in eating a little bit, many times a day. And I found if you stop eating after 6 at night, your body has a chance to 'cleanse" itself. I stopped red meat and fast food, also. Well, MickeyD fries once in awhile.
Taebo is good also.
(I had 4 sweet n hot pickles for breakfast)

One exercise that really helps, and is low impact is swimming, or even better yet, just treading water. You use every muscle in your body, and it also really gets your heart pumping. During the past week I have tried to swim everyday, and yesterday I spent over two hours, swimming and treading water, I can hardly lift my arms, but it feels good to know I am doing something, anything to keep myself in better shape, now If I can only add a couple of hours of sex to this workout, I wouldn't have any trouble sleeping at night, and my beer belly might not be as big !!!!!!!!!!! We sit here all winter long, so now that the weather is on our side, I encourage all of you to get in the water, and make yourself look and feel better.

And as I think I've said a million times before - dance like there's nobody watching!
If you're a music lover, there's nothing like it. If you can't afford lessons or find a partner, get a dvd...I just picked one up for belly dancing. Lord knows I have the belly for it!
