OK...not happy here...
OK, so I quit smoking, and I know weight gain usually goes hand in hand, so I prepared for it...I dieted a bit before...lost 7 lbs and was at 144...only 4 lbs over my 'ideal' weight on Friday when I quit.
Since then, I've been eating mostly baked or broiled fish, lots of veggies, and salads. Cold cereal (raisin bran with 1% milk) or oatmeal for breakfast, with coffee. I'm drinking a TON of water...hardly any soda at all...and drinking a Vitamin Water each day as well. I'm trying to detox my body
Would anyone care to explain to me why, when I stepped on the scale this morning, I weighed in at 152 lbs?

Well I lost 2 lbs this week but today had a minor surgery on my foot today so can't go back to water aerobics for about a week. I'm sure I'll gain back the 2 plus more unless I really really watch it.

Great for you, Sweet! Aw, Sign, do not think that way. See yourself slimming down easily. Personally, I have found that some foods are worse for me than it is for other people. Like some people cannot eat any dairy without weight gain. I love cottage cheese and can eat it a lot and have no problem. EF, try checking out the Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type Diet. It makes a big difference if you are eating those foods that are assimilable for you. Some foods make some blood types gain weight. And the same foods are fine with another person. I have stuck pretty good to good foods for my particular diet at the moment. I am sort of following my trainers advice even tho it does not follow the blood type diet.

EF, along with your modified diet, do you also include aerobic exercises that keep your heart rate up for 35 - 45 minutes at least three times a week? You need to do both in order to lose and maintain weight.
Congrats, Sign!!! At least the effects from your foot surgery will be short-term and you can get back on track.

Thanks Mo, I sure am on top of the world right now! Great motivation to continue to work on it! I even splurged last night and had 2 cereal bars. I have found them to be great for the sweet tooth and they are only around 100 calories!

EF, I would also be inclined to suspect sodium to be the culprit as it causes the body to retain water. Raisin bran and oatmeal both have fairly high amounts of sodium, and they also absorb much of your water intake. That's how they work so well. Their effects are temporary though, as long as you keep drinking water to flush your system out.
Green tea is also good for detoxing your body.
I've lost five pounds myself. Only a few thousand more to go. I found a really neat weight support website called sparkspeople.com. (if it doesn't get blanked out)
Keep it going, good people!!

LOL, Mo...I'm a cocktail server...I run my butt off thru Happy Hour 4x a week. That's about all this poor recovering EX smoker can take right now...give me time...I'll be doing more, but seriously, work is all I ever needed before to burn calories

Hmmm, interesting case, EF. I'm stumped? Maybe you just need a different exercise?

OK... I'm in! I have about 40 pounds that I want to lose and haven't really been doing anything about it. Summer is here and I want to get back into my sundresses and strut my stuff!
I had success a few years ago with the South Beach diet, didn't really feel cheated and the weight dropped off. My big weakness is PASTA! So with that culprit I fell off the wagon and gained some weight back. Now that it isn't raining as much here in the NW, walking after work will be doable. I don't have a scale so I will have to go and buy one.
Great to have you folks here for the encouragement.

Tahoma- It's been many years, but I did the Scarsdale diet, combined with a workout program, and lost 50 pounds. The soup diet was good also-you should stick with one diet for long-it screws with your ketones. I even cheated, but set some rules, like only the pretty m and ms, no brown ones, only the curled chips (or I'd sit and eat the whole bag) If I felt like going out with friends, I would just drink a shot and tons of water.

I've lost 20 lbs in the past two months and will try to lose 10 more. I just try to eat healthy and allow myself some chocolate every day and a pig out once a week. Laying off the wine has also helped I think.
