California isn't exactly the paradise it used to be, what with one of the largest budget deficits in the United States and some of the highest taxes, water shortages, rolling power blackouts, drought, the worst illegal immi- gration problem in the United States and not coincidentally one of the worst gang problems, rampant poverty, nearly lethal pollution and The Terminator for governor.
With these challenges to overcome you would think that the governing bodies of the state would have their hands full, but apparently not so much that they can't spare a little time to argue over dog testicles. Stone dog testicles, that is.
A marble monument to service dogs, originally set to be displayed in Sacramento, California, may be on its way out of the golden state. The reason? The statue's "manhood" is still intact.
Proponents of the so-called "California Healthy Pets Act", which would require that most of the state's dogs and cats over the age of 6 months be sterilized, claim that placing the image of an intact male dog on public property is harmful and sends the wrong message to California pet owners.
Well, as long as they're tackling the important issues. But this story is about to pay off with some brilliant quotes...
Dan Nender, a 'Healthy Pets' supporter who filed suit in Sacramento Federal Court to have the monument altered, said, "Frankly, it doesn't matter what the artist wants, or for that matter whether the lawsuit succeeds. This is the will of the people... and don't ask me which people, and we're going to carry it out. If this guy doesn't want to do the work himself, we'll sneak in there at night and use a Saws- All on it.
"We cannot have intact testicles on government property. Sacramento is a testicle-free zone."
"It's a shame," Karen Billings, a planning coordinator said. "These folks just won't let it go. They're obsessed with dog testicles. That didn't sound right..."

"California Healthy Pets Act" (which is just enforced birth control) is bad enough, but....aiyeeee, stone "stones" on a friggin' STATUE?
(Why don't they force the nuts to be cut off of people who over-breed? ...nah, then there would be some anti-nut nut-group who'd request that Rodin's "Thinker" in San Francisco be emasculated, too )

Mr. Nender may just have a really bad case of "Testicle Envy" - of which may be justifiable.......................Sounds like he doesn't have the balls to crusade for something worthwhile!

How crazy can people become. Maybe it would be an idea to focus efforts on other things as this. But then again... you need some working braincells to be able to do that

Loreli - i take offense to that!
As for the OP - Only in California! I am surprised PETA doesn't consider the statue animal cruelty.

It's nice to know that Calif. does not have any major problems to deal with so they can spend time and money fighting over dog testicles. Someone has way to much time on their hands.
I know it burns me up when I drive somewhere and see a dog beside the road with testicles! Right now I'm making signs so I can go downtown and protest. "No balls for Rover!"
OUCH!!!!! What the hell???? Sorry, ..... my dog just bit me!!

how would you feel, if after a hard life as a service dog, they cut the balls off your statue? That doesn't seem right.

Yes people here have way to much time on there hands,,,,,,,the people who are the problem....the ones who have the pets and let them breed ,,,,,won't care one way or another....sad ..that these people really beleive this will help with the shelter being over crowded.
Most people who have service/working dogs.....want the line carried on so they do not nueter/spayed .Stupid people live here....( and yes I live here) But I m also fighting this law....its like a lot of them ,,not well thought out. Do we need to do something about all the dogs who run the streets or are thrown away when they grow up ,,,yes....but this law won't fix or get to any of those types of people .Its the free puppys at wal mart that need to stop.People might need to wait 15 days like buying a gun before really buying one....oh well...jmo
stupid is a s stupid does..

haah that just reminded me of sumpin Jester.. not too long ago had a guy come up to me and handed me his balls (pretty good sized stainless steel ball bearings) and as he did he said "well I'm hooked ya might as well have these too!" I have them proudly displayed with my Pewter Dragon watching over them
